MINNEAPOLIS The Boilermakers have inched closer and closer each week to that one important victory which signifies a breakthrough. How close were they Saturday?
Two plays. One on offense. One on defense. Both in the fourth quarter.
Better execution on the first one and better discipline on the second, and Purdue likely would have walked out of TCF Bank Stadium with more momentum than this program has enjoyed in a long time..

Minnesota coach Jerry Kill said he told his team at halftime that "good teams find a way to win. We're going to find out about your character and we're going to find out about your discipline. I've been here a million times, but Minnesota has not always been here. We need to find out who we are and what we are."
Where does this leave the Boilermakers (3-5, 1-3) with four games remaining?
The offense is clearly making progress to put the Boilermakers in the position to win. Look at the big plays produced by Appleby, Raheem Mostert and Akeem Hunt. Mostert had runs of 42 and 69 yards and Hunt generated 98 yards as the Boilermakers finished with 298.
