Punting from the 33

I'm not criticizing Brewster specifically for punting from the 33 today but I just don't see the point even if it was 4th and 10. Unless I had a dominent defense, I would rarely punt in that situation. At least half the time the punt goes into the end zone and ends up on the 20. Even if the play works as designed (I think the ball was downed inside the 10 today), it is usually a matter of a few plays and the opponent has the ball back at the 33 anyway. I would do it late in the game or half if I needed to make a long field for the opponent but that's about it. However, if you make the first down you will likely score and if you miss it's not much worse than the field position on many kick offs.

This is a pet peeve of mine and yet it seems to be a pretty standard call that coaches make so maybe I'm wrong. Can somebody tell me why it makes sense?
