If they use last year's RPI as a guide for seeding the Puerto Rico Tip-Off, the pairings would look like this:

#1 Utah (19) vs. #8 Missouri State (247)
#4 Miami (65) vs. #5 Minnesota (98)
#2 Butler (31) vs. #7 Mississippi State (216)
#3 Temple (34) vs. #6 Texas Tech (184)

My guess is they'll go with:

#1 Utah vs. #8 Missouri State
#4 Temple vs. #5 Minnesota
#2 Butler vs. #7 Texas Tech
#3 Miami vs. #6 Mississippi State

Last year PR Tip-Off pairings were announced Aug. 5.

Yikes, quite a jump in RPI between Minnesota and Texas Tech. I guess there is no chance they would seed Minnesota vs. 6-8? It would suck if playing in a strong tournament became an RPI killer.

Do they keep playing? If so, lose the first game and you likely get two really high RPIs

Yep, the first game really important. Playing in winner's bracket at minimum likely provides opportunity for at least 1 quality win. Probably not the case in loser's bracket with this particular tournament field.

Mississippi State is adding a top 10 recruit and potential 2016 NBA lottery pick in Malik Newman. I'd guess that alone would make them significantly better than last year's RPI 200+ edition.

Agree. That's why I bumped them over Tubby's squad, and thought about seeding them ahead of the Gophers. Feel fairly confident Gophers' quarterfinal opponent will be either Miami or Temple. At worst the Gophers should be seeded ahead of Texas Tech and Missouri State.
