Pregame Thoughts: Purdue 1/13/11

#8/#8 Purdue (15-1, 4-0) takes their 10-game road winning streak into Williams Arena to face the waitress-demeaning NR/#25 Minnesota Golden Gophers (12-4, 1-3) . The game will take place on Thursday, January 13 with an early start time of 6pm CT, as we cater to the demands of ESPN despite being national media darlings (see Tuesday).

This is a "must-win" if for no other reason than to get us all (including the players) thinking about basketball again.

It's going to come down to Barlow/Byrd/Carroll vs. Mbakwe. Should be interesting.

Um...Boiler up.

Was Trevor on the team when we beat Purdue during the Big Ten tourney last year? :)

Look for the Gophers to pull away at the end with their new found free throw shooting prowess.:cool02:

I'm very excited to start thinking about a game for the first time in a while. Let's go Gophs!

69 to 42 in the Big Ten Tournament last year, and it was not even that close. We did not have Trevor and we did not have Al. LW had 5 points and the duck guy had 10. Colton and Ralph led the scoring with 11 and 13 respectfully. Trevor should have a field day. I am sure that the Boilers have not forgotten that beating, but this is a must win game for us. We will win by 10 at least.

Let's not pretend that the circumstances surrounding that game were anything close to normal. That was still only 2 weeks after "the incident" and they still had no idea how to play without Rob. But if it works as bulletin board material, I'm fine with that.

I'm just hoping nobody tears anything on that cursed floor.

69-42 will have no bearing on this game. Both teams are completely different. Purdue now has had time to adjust and is playing quite well without Hummel, and the Gophers are a different looking team now that they have a legitimate interior presence (Trevor). No question this one's about as close to a must-win as you can get for the Gophers. They're certainly overdue to play something resembling a complete 40-minute game.

hummel-sherrill

Didn't Will Sherrill of Virginia injure his leg on the same spot on the floor as Hummel?

Purdue doesn't have a chance without Hummel and should seriously consider dropping it's Men's basketball program all together.

Well, obviously because Tubby's not your coach, there's no reason for such negativity.

Call me a homer but I think the Gophs pull this one out by 6-8 points.

I hope we don't have another fiasco like last years Michigan game. They have to limit Purdues scorers.
