I know last year I predicted 10 wins. This year I have a totally opposite feeling. This year we will have 10 losses or more. Our defense will be pathetic. Our running game will be horrible and our O-line will continue to struggle. Weber will be terrible and our recievers will underperform. The players will be rebellious and the coaches will not be able to control them. There will be a huge scandal that rocks the football program. Brewster will be fired and Maturi shortly after him. An earthquake will hit the Twin cities and ruin TCF stadium. The practice facility will decimated by a plane crash and the Bierman building will burn to the ground. Gopherhole and Gophersports will shut down due to a virus and the Gopher beat writers will catch Malaria. It will be the worst year we've had in Gopher football.

It took me all the way to the "earthquake" before my blood pressure returned to normal. The funny thing is, we would see this type of post for real from about a quarter of GH "members"...

The Gophers will lose games that aren't even on the schedule. On the way to playing Concordia Saint Paul, Bemidji State will show up, beat the Gophers and take their lunch money. The Gophers will find a way to not only be shut out, but actually score negative points, much to the surprise of the NCAA rules committee. The defense will actually carry our opponents to our end zone. Georgia Tech's 220-0 defeat of Cumberland college would seem like a good day by comparison.

Plagues of rats, frogs and fleas will fall from the skies, and the Mississippi River will turn to blood. The sun will be blotted out and God himself will point his finger at all Gopher fans and say "shame on you."

... or ...

We just might do a little better than the magazine writers think.

2010 will be a very interesting season. Brewsters honeymoon is over for most fans and his team needs to start producing better results than what we saw under Masonball. That's what he was hired to do. Problem is, that will be a very tough gig considering the difficult schedule. The Sr. class is very thin, lacking in quality players and provides very little depth. The burden will fall on many newbies who have shown a glimpse of improved talent. But they are, for the most part, inexperienced. If Brewster can manage to hang up 6 W's, he will survive. Maturi has a lot invested in him and will support Brewster unless we repeat 07. I look forward to a much better outlook for 2011 if the newbies are as talented as many think.

Gophers go 7-5 in 2010 regular season. They take 3-4 non-conference, 3-4 of NU, Purdue, MSU and IL, and get a win from either Wisconsin or Iowa. As for Brewster, he has to win one of the rivalry games with a 7-5 record to help get the top recruits. Another 6-6 season won't get him fired, but won't help him either.

I think that the Gophers will go 6-6 +/- 1. I think to do better than that, all or most of the ifs, have to fall in our favor. On the other extreme, all or most of the ifs ,have to go against us to be significatly worse. I look forward to seeing a rapidly improving defense and a competent offense that shows enough for high hopes going into 2011.

I pick them at 5-7 going 2-6 within the conference. Too many questions on both sides of the ball. If they can get to 6-6 Brewster probably does get another year. Probably still does at 5-7.

many belieive there is an upgrade in the talent on the defensive side of the ball that hasn't been seen around here in a long time. I agree that there does seem to be a different type of D player being recruited but that needs to translate to on field success which we will see if that is the case based on 9 new starters mostly all recruited by this regime.

Range: 5-7 through 7-5
Why? The offense was hampered by its preparation last year and still managed to put up points. The defense will be good enough.

If one of the freshman backs turns out to be the real deal, then we can maybe expect a couple more wins.

Prediction for the 2010 Football Season?

After the Gophers win their third game, posters who predicted 3 wins or less will come out after every subsequent win, and loudly proclaim how disappointing they are because of the way the Gophers won. :banghead:

I know I may take heat for this, but I just hope we don't have a 6 or 7-loss season. Obviously, as a Gopher fan, I'd love to see our team playing in Pasadena on New Year's day. Heck, I'd even welcome a chance to see a victory in the Insight Bowl to give us a winning season.

I'm just not sure that I have the patience to deal with a 5-7 or 6-7 (6-6 with another bowl loss) season. At least with a 3-9 season, I think the organization would make changes. I've never been one to advocate change solely for the sake of change, but I wasn't a big fan of the coaching hire in 2007, but decided to be supportive for at least 4 or 5 years. With another disappointing season, I think I'd be ready for a change.

A 5-7 or 6-7 (or probably even a 4-8) season would just put the progam in a state of limbo for another year.

We won't be in the Insight Bowl if we're 6-6. Unless we go 0-4 in the non-conference schedule.
We did last year. I'm curious to hear why you think 2010 would be so different. Not disagreeing, just curious.

You sure do like going all in on the crazy don't you? Last year its the 10 win absurdity. Now its this. I await next year's National Champions prediction with baited breath.

we will be 8-4 and it will be a tremendous season! we beat both iowa and the wisky-dicks. only lose to usc, osu, penn st, and a classic minnesota fall apart vs northwestern...by the way I spoke to a psychic this is not a guess

Ah, you mean at 6-6 we might go to a bowl, but not the Insight Bowl, since the Insight Bowl has moved up in the pecking order.

I don't think it's as easy as that. A lot, in my opinion, will depend on how the young guys play and how we improve in some areas.

Will our OL play better this year?
Will one or several of our young RB show they can be a legit Big Ten RB?
Will Gray or Alipate get playing time at QB and play well?
Will our young but talented defense show signs that they can and will be pretty good with more experience like we're hoping?

If most or all of these questions can be answered with a yes at the end of the year, a 6-6 regular season would not be too bad. If most or all of these questions are answered with a no, then a 6-6 season would just put the program in a state of limbo as you stated.

No 4th tier bowl in '10

@ MTSU - close but L
SD - W
USC - L
Northern Illinois - decent team but at home - W
NW - new QB for cats - W
@ WI - No chance if Clay healthy - L
@ Purdue - toughest call of season - L
PSU - new QB but more depth - L
OSU - L
@ MSU - If Cousins healthy - ouch! L
@ Illinois - revamped coaching staff - W
Iowa - L

That looks like 4-8 and Brew's is clinging to life - certainly could be 5-7 with Purdue win

Penn State other bit that could be average and we steal one

Hope I'm wrong - Go Gophs!

This year could be a struggle, but if we go to any Bowl, Brew will be back and 2011 will be the year. We'll beat the Badgers and or Iowa, as Clay will be a monster this year and then go pro. Same could be said of Pryor. Iowa's D-line, Klug and Clayborn, will be gone and so will Stanzi.

From what I've seen in street clothes, Ragoo is as big as Jeff Wills, but not "sloppy" like Jeff. I just watched the Penn State and Ohio state games again and saw Jeff get easily juked then left standing there looking for someone to block time after time. However, he will be better this year. Next year, the Olson's, Gere, Michels etc. will open holes and protect Gray. Enough has been said about the Defense for 2011. We just need enough wins this year to keep Brew and the positive attitudes going into 2011.

Baited breath? Have you been eating minnows?

The Gophers won´t just lose to MTSU but Dwight Dasher will break the all time NCAA records for rushing and passing in the very same game! After South Dakota´s first TD, live Coyotes will be sacrificed every ten yards across every across the entirety of TCF stadium. Thunder and Lightning will be in abundance, and Hades will rise to inform Brew that he is meant for the underworld.

Not only will the Gophers lose every game, but Patrick Reusse will come out of nowhere to win the nomination of both major political parties assuring his election as the next Governor of Minnesota. Once in office he will sign a bill into law making it illegal to cheer for or attend Gopher games. He will prosecute all of our athletes for such high crimes as jaywalking, trying too hard, and underage drinking. He will randomly make drunken speeches in a poor imitation of Brewster´s voice while stuffing his face with Doritos, giant orange flecks flying out of his greasy mouth with every utterance.

Worse yet, Bret Bielema will skip a Wisconsin game to attend Minnesota versus Iowa at TCF. After the conclusion of the Hawkeyes record setting 300-0 victory over the Gophers they will join hands and simultaneously defecate on Goldy Gopher at the 50 yard line.

´Love it or Leave it´ Ricki Stanzi will then announce that the Gophers are un-American, and he will argue vociferously in favor of McCarthy style hearings for anyone caught simultaneously wearing the colors Maroon and Gold.

You are a funny guy!

Bravo the first two posts - wonderful stuff! As to how we will actually do, I'm converting to the idea we need two years of the new offense to get a fair judgment.

To paraphrase Beldar Conehead:

If, for some reason the Gophers make it to a bowl game, my most precious one, I would collapse, I would draw the shades and I would live in the dark. I would never get out of my slar phase or clean myself. My fluids would coagulate, my cone would shrivel, and I would die, miserable and lonely. The stench would be great.

That's what the trolls might say.

As current title holder, I will be saving my FB predictions for the Gopherhole Football Guess the Score contest. I have been gracious in my title reign and expect fully expect to repeat.

Are we already resigning to "there's always next year"? Practice hasn't even started yet!

I really do think this is the make or break year for Brewster. I do have my doubts if Brewster can take us to the next level. I would not have been dissappointed if they fired Brewster after last year. This team has got to show signs this year that we have a bright future ahead. What Brewster needs to do is the same thing that Mason failed to do and that was win big games. Brewster needs pull some upsets from time to time and win some trophy games. I don't expect us to win all our games against USC, Wisconsin, Iowa, Penn State, and OSU this year, but least win two of these games. Pull off some upsets. Four of those games are at home. I think this team really needs to show us that the future is bright for Minnesota football. I hope Brewster does well here, but this year we need to start winning some big games. It will be an interesting year and I hope we suprise a lot of people.

I agree with everything you said excepted the bolded. Not because I think he's a super-great coach or anything (he still has a lot to learn). But I would rather at least let him have a season or two with "his guys" as upperclassmen. Here's his chance to really show Gopher Nation that he was the right choice. It's still up in the air, we have to see something this year that's for sure.
