P.J. Fleck received $275,000 in bonuses during the Gophers’ 11-2 season in 2019.

Minnesota’s head football coach, who had a $3.6 million salary, first earned $75,000 with his sixth regular season win in October. He added $100,000 for clinching a tie for the Big Ten West championship — though he got that after Wisconsin routed the Gophers 38-17 on Nov. 30; the Badgers won the division tiebreaker and represented the division into the conference championship game, which the Badgers lost to Ohio State.

Fleck netted $50,000 for being named Big Ten coach of the year by his conference peers, plus another $50,000 for a bowl win over a team from a Power Five conference, 31-24 over Auburn in the Outback Bowl on Jan. 1.

It's interesting how contract trends have changed.

Jerry had a big "per win" bonus and other bonuses... but you don't see those "per win" bonuses as much anymore. Sometimes, but not nearly as often as a while ago.

Ferentz has one of those IIRC, but most of the head coaches that were hired more recently seem to have "accomplishment" based bonuses such as awards, division/conference titles, etc.

How many hours a week does Fleck — or any college football coach at a P5 school — work?

80? 90? 100? More?

Hiring and supervising assistants, recruiting, fundraising, PR, game planning, interviews, film, overseeing logistics... not to mention being responsible for everyday actions of 18-22 year old hormonal males who are living a surreal existence...

Maybe I've bought into the hype, but the workload, the stress, the pressure to win... it seems unimaginable.

I suspect these guys all earn their money.
