Win-loss projections for the 2019 college football season are coming in, and the Gophers are more highly regarded than in years past.

Athlon is less optimistic than other publications, predicting a fifth-place finish in the West (7-5) for Minnesota, and pegging Nebraska, with second-year coach Scott Frost, as division winners (9-4).

“Minnesota is another team on the list, as coach P.J. Fleck’s squad has one of the league’s deepest backfields and an All-America candidate (Tyler Johnson) at receiver,” the magazine wrote. “If Zack Annexstad or Tanner Morgan provide solid play at quarterback, the Golden Gophers could surprise.”
