Any reason why the SEC is a power conference but the American isn't?

Any reason why the SEC is a power conference but the American isn't?

Good question.

Gonna' make the American prove itself for a season or two before lumping it with the Big 6, especially after Louisville departs in 2014. No question, the American and Mountain West are probably in that next tier. A-10 maybe, but probably not now with the defections of Butler, Temple, Xavier, etc.
