According to Basketball Travelers, Inc., the Gophers (contact: Joe Esposito) are looking for a BCS home & home series starting on the road in the 2010-11 season. So I took it a but further, looked for other BCS (or notable non-Big 6) schools who would appear to match the Gophers' scheduling needs, or close to it.
Here are some of the BCS/notable schools needing to fill a slot on their schedule next season.
Arizona State: Looking for home & home series. Can start on the road.
Arkansas (Part I): Needs to start a home & home series in Fayetteville on Dec. 7 or Jan. 1.
Arkansas (Part II): Looking for someone to play in Little Rock on Dec. 28. Willing to discuss return game at a neutral site.
Auburn: Looking for BCS home & home series starting on the road on Nov. 26-27.
Colorado: Looking for home & home series starting in Boulder on Jan. 1-3.
Dayton: Looking for home & home series with BCS school. Willing to start series on the road.
Georgia: Looking for 4-year BCS home & home series.
Kansas State: Looking for BCS home & home series starting in Manhattan on Nov. 26-27.
Louisville: Needs high major to open new arena. Will do home & home series but can only return game in 2012-13. Could do neutral site return in 2011-12.
Marquette: Looking for BCS home & home series. Could start at home or on road.
Ole Miss: Looking for BCS home & home series. Available dates are Nov. 24 and Dec. 15.
Seton Hall: Looking for BCS home & home series starting in New Jersey.
USC: Looking for BCS home & home series starting in Los Angeles on Dec. 8-12, Dec. 14-15 or Jan. 8-9.
Xavier: Looking to start a high major series on the road. Game would need to be in January or February. We could call this one the Mack/Souhan Classic, but I doubt we'll schedule a second A-10 opponent.
**If Gophers are truly looking to start a BCS home & home series on the road, K-State, Marquette, Ole Miss or USC would be my preference.
Unavailable dates on Gophers' 2010-11 schedule:
Nov. 12-13: Wofford at home
Nov. 15: Siena at home
Nov. 18-21: Puerto Rico Tip-Off
Nov. 29-Dec. 1: ACC opponent
Dec. 16-22: fall-term finals
