Traditions do not depend on whether the team wins or loses. I know a lot of you bail out of your seats well before the band plays the Alma Mater after the game. I suppose some of you didn't even know this happens. After Saturday's loss, I was disappointed that only one member of the team remained on the field for the Alma Mater....Coach Brewster. I realize that this was a devastating loss and that there were other emotional factors at play in this game beyond football. But, in my opinion, you either stand on the field as a team for the Alma Mater win or lose, or don't do it at all. I am a two-time graduate of this fine University and a member of the Bitter End Club. Ski-U-Mah.

Brewster addressed this with Sports Huddle today. He said he got pulled aside by the Big Ten Network for interview and by the time it was over the guys had left the field in disappointment. He stayed to sing Hail Minnesota and then went to the locker room where he told his players that they are to never, ever leave the field again without singing Hail Minnesota..win or lose. He was ardently apologetic this morning.

I'll never accuse Brewster of being insensitive to important Minnesota Football traditions. He did a great amount of research into Minnesota football and embraced its history from day one. I'll always remember and respect that about him.

To the HC's Credit...

Saw the team leave the field while the Band and cheerleaders set up and was not happy. Informed later that indeed the HC was there. He also addressed it this AM from a caller and said it was a mistake.

I'll take him at his word. Isolated incident.

Go Gophers! Beat USC!

I noticed and thought it was poor. Good to hear Brewster address this, and put a clamp on the "sore loser" bit right off the top. It's definitely not a good look and despite all his warts, if there's one thing I can respect about Brewster is he definitely pours his heart and soul into the program, whether effectively or not. He wouldn't intentionally disrespect like that.

He's lost the team. The players have no understanding of tradition and it's importance to people other than themselves. Why weren't the team captains out there? Isn't that part of what they are supposed to represent? Weber and Kirksey should turn in their C's.

I heard that the team didn't stay for Hail, Minnesota.. But didn't know that Brew was the only person out there for it.

For that, I commend him greatly. He may suck as a coach, but there's no doubt he put in his time in doing his research on our traditions and manned up and stayed.

As much as I was angry with Coach Brewster about this loss, I have to give props for the guy being there at the very end. I want this guy to win. I just hope he can find the will to get these players to take pride in beating the guy across from them on every play regardless of who they are playing. If he can refocus these guys to win the rivalry games, I'll say he did a heck of a job getting these players back from the abyss of this loss.

I think you'll see some changes. Clearly this team does not have effective on field leadership. And I think you saw that embodied in that unfortunte display with the players leaving early.

the coach should be the leader of the team. while very minimal in ultimate importance, this shows to me his team has not learned good values. i have battled many, many obstacles in life and always stood up no matter the result. whether a loss to south dakota or a thrilling 4 OT victory over Wisconsin to rob them of a rose bowl appearance, you stay to sing the alma mater to show your love/loyalty to the U of M and as a show of appreciation to the fans, i was not very happy as i expect nothing but class from the players and coaches, glad to hear brewster stayed tho thats a positive in my book.

Get over it, guys. You are making way too much out of this. Of all the possible offenses that college football players could commit this one ranks pretty much at the bottom of the heap.

You're right, it's not like they wounded us. It's more like they rubbed salt in the wound.
