Automatic qualifiers/conference leaders are determined by "best conference record", hence 1-0 is better than 0-0, 2-0 is better than 1-0, etc. In the event of a tie for the conference lead (Big Ten, SEC), conference tiebreakers were used. Opponents' winning percentage is noted with each team's overall record.

So the playoff is just going to be a SEC-Big Ten Challenge of sorts with:
  • Token champions from the ACC and Big 12 who joined those leagues this season and became good now that their rich alums can legally pay players (SMU and BYU)
  • Maybe Notre Dame or Boise State?

If Georgia beats Tennessee and Tech, they are a lock. Now, that may not happen, but if it does, they are in.

If Colorado wins out, they make the Big XII championship game, watched them again yesterday and they’re vastly improved since their L to Nebby to start the season.

Yep.

If I were a betting man I'd say Buffs will win out and get the Big XII automatic bid. However, I don't think they'd have a shot for an at-large with 3 losses. There's just too many SEC teams that would be taken ahead of them, despite Prime Time appeal.

I agree.

Bulldogs are 100% in if they win out. Ditto for Alabama. Tide far & away would have the best resume of any 2-loss team, not to mention several 1-loss teams.

With their skill players, the Buffs are fun to watch and dangerous to play.

I really hope they somehow limit the number of SEC teams.

The playoff possibilities this is creating is exciting and I hope we see some upsets🥳

With only 5 auto bids, I would’ve preferred an 8 team bracket.

If only there were a way to determine a conference champion (or co-champions) via divisions, conference races, conference championships (an avenue for regular season loss redemption) for representation in a playoff. I don’t care if Georgia, Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama can’t make it every single bleeping year because they are deeply flawed squads (like this year). *uck them and their entitled fans. I’d far rather see Army, Boise, or Ball State make it in if they take care of business on the field of play. That’s what makes sports fun, and fair. I realize I may not represent many sports fans.

Barking at the moon.

You represent me and I care about myself than I care about others

This format is so unsatisfying, as a fan of sports.
was just going to say the same. i don't need to see the 4th and 5th best SEC and B10 teams in a playoff. i think your secondary post is how most actual CFB fans feel rather than those that just casually follow along (you know the ones who were mind blown we beat USC because they just recognize the name but couldn't name a single player on their team other than that guy who threw all the touchdowns in their bowl last year)
