These from an average of 40+ "bracketoligists".

5 seed. Possible 12 seeds: Virginia, Kentucky, Iowa St. Boise St. Possible 4 seeds: Arizona, Marquette, Ohio St., Syracuse.

6 seed. Possible 11 seeds: St. Mary's, Temple, Lasalle, Middle Tenn St. Possible 3 seeds: Michigan, Michigan St., New Mexico, Kansas St.

7 Seed. Possible 10 seeds: Creighton, Cal, Cincinnati, Wichita St. Possible 2 seeds: Miami, Georgetown, Florida, Louisville.

8 or 9 Seed. Possible 8-9 seeds: NC State, Memphis, North Carolina, Missouri, San Diego St., Oklahoma, Colorado. Possible 1 seeds: Indiana, Duke, Kansas, Gonzaga.

10 seed. Possible 7 seeds: Notre Dame, UCLA, Oregon, VCU. Possible 2 seeds: Miami, Georgetown, Florida, Louisville.

11 seed. Possible 6 seeds: Pittsburgh, Butler, Colorado St., UNLV. Possible 3 seeds: Michigan, Michigan St., New Mexico, Kansas St.

Pick your poison.

FWIW, Gophers are currently an average of a 6.72 seed on their matrix.

6-7 sounds about right IMO for where they are. I would want to stay out of an 8-9 seed, but aside from that there is not much difference between a 5-11 seed, IMO, expect for the ease of the 1st game...

Is it weird that if those really unfolded, I'd much prefer a 6 seed over a 5? Or even a 7.

True. All those 12's are teams that could sneak up and bite them. 5-12 is a bad place to be for the 5.

Sometimes the lower seed between a five to a seven looks more attractive at first (opening game) until you look at who will be waiting for you in round two.

I would prefer a 10 or an 11 seed though to an 8 or 9 seed due to that number 1 seed waiting in round two.

Most years I'd agree, but I'm not convinced there's much of a difference between the best team and the 10th best this year...

So, would we (assuming all other things are equal) play a mid-major (Middle Tennessee State, Belmont, etc) or BCS team (Kentucky, Virginia, etc).

Looking at this I can see just how bad my bracket is going to suck this year.

Or be totally awesome :)!
I wonder how many times Big Ten teams will face each other in the Tourney. I would be the over under would be ~1.5.

If we win at least one of the next two and a game in the BTT, we should be around a 6 or 7 seed.

Stay off the 8-9 line and go from there.

Mixed feelings here on this, FTB. While I agree with you on staying off the 8-9 line, our Gophers would be hellishly fearful to a #1 in that 2nd round. For my personal preference, however, I would prefer being in the 3 - 6 spot for the best potential path to the Sweet 16. It could happen, Gopher Fans.

I think the best path for any team daring to dream of going to the Final Four will be by going West....If the Gophers finish 3-1 or 4-1, they could move up to a 5 or 6 seed. If they split the last 2 games and go 1-1 in the Big Ten Tourney they will be a 7 to 10 seed depending on other fators...

My West Projections:

1)Gonzaga
2)New Mexico
3)Arizona
4)Michigan
5)Oregon
6)Kansas St.
7)Colorado St
8)Missouri
9)Oklahoma
10)Minnesota
11)La Tech
12)Wichita St
13)Akron
14)South Dakota St.
15)Long Beach St.
16)Montana

Amelia blog: No matter what, Gophers "probably" safe for the NCAA tournament

Go Gophers!!

Let's hope the players aren't reading her blog...I actually think there's a slight chance the Gophers could get snubbed if they lose badly to Nebraska, Purdue and then lose again in 1st round of the Big Ten Tourney. I wouldn't wanna have to sweat out Selection Sunday with 3 bad losses in a row and an 8-11 record in Big Ten play. Win tonight, and I agree they are 100% safe.
