Saw this--hope it's true.

Also, it would be one hell of a recruiting coup to steal one from the Bison.

What are the chances he actually stays at RB? I'd much rather see him move to linebacker or something.

Looks like a future MLB to me. Of course he's already pretty big and may not get much bigger at which case he'd definitely stay at RB

Okay yeah, because defense is such a big problem with this team. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

The guy's 6'1'', 210 as a high schooler with a 40 time of (supposedly) 4.6. Berkeley will be a RS SO, JJ will be a RS FR, Smith will be either a RS FR or SO, and Femi-Cole is already in the class. Meanwhile, we've only had five linebacker commits the last two years, one of which being a JUCO. And last I checked, three linebackers play at a time, while only one running back plays at a time.

But yeah, go ahead and write his name in stone on the RB depth chart. :banghead::banghead::banghead:

I believe we have had eight LB commits in the past two years with two verbals so far this year.

Hard to say what position the staff sees James eventually ending up at. Maybe they don't even know yet. If they want him I'm happy with the commitment.

The coaches didn't bother working him out at linebacker at camp, so . . .

Doesn't mean he won't end up there someday. I'm not saying I think he'll be a LB, just that it's a little early for people to say he's for sure playing a certain position.

It gets frustrating having people talking about kids who are recruited as offensive players being better defensive players because of their physical attributes or they don't have elite speed or whatever the reason. A poster on another thread is saying the same thing about Almonzo Brown. These kids must have some offensive skills or why recruit a kid you know wants to play on offense. Who knows? Perhaps Johanneson will become a more effective runner at 230 and we have the next Toby Gerhart on our hands. I wouldn't exactly pencil in Femi-Cole and Smith as locks for RB depth either. Johanneson and Brown deserve a shot at their preferred positions before the coaches monkey with position changes imo.

Why is it frustrating? Most high schools put their best athletes at QB, RB or WR where they can get the ball in their hands, not necessarily at the position they're best suited for in college. A ton of college LBs and DBs were offensive players in high school. Our best offensive player is Maxx and he was a HS QB. KJ Maye and Donovan Jones were QBs. Jack Lynn was a WR. Eric Murray was a WR. Ced Thompson was an RB. So tell us again why it's wrong to speculate about future position for guys? Teams recruit kids that want to play offense with the intention of moving them all the time. Bateman said for 2 years that he was going to be a TE when the whole world knew he was a better DL prospect. Same with Elmore. This is a regular aspect of recruiting

Out of the group you mentioned, Jones, Elmore, and perhaps Murray were the only ones who tried positions different from what they are today. Williams was never going to be a qb. Lynn was never going to be a wr. Thompson was never going to be a rb and so on. Forgive me but I am not familiar with Bateman to make a comment about him. Maybe you mean Hageman. But he was given an opportunity at te and the switch happened to work out great. It just gets me that people here think automatically a kid won't be any good on offense so switch him to defense as soon as he gets on campus. Let's not put the cart before the horse.

Got spell checked, meant Hageman. Thing is you only know what positions guys were recruited for based on what they tell us. For all we know JJ may never be an RB just like realistically Hageman was never going to be a TE. I also don't think any or most people are saying the kid will suck, just speculating on where they think he fits best athletically. It happens with almost every single recruit, particularly the offensive guys

The long term plan with Hageman and Elmore was TE. It was never a ploy to recruit them at TE just so we could get them. And even if it was than why aren't we recruiting Carlberg at his preferred position?

Do you not remember Hags constantly insisting that he was a TE in every recruiting articke? He talked about watching how teams used their TEs and everything.

I listened to James make his commitment on KFAN. It was down to Minnesota and NDSU because both said he would play RB. He said he has no interest in playing any other position, including LB. So, for all of you who want to move him, my guess is that after listening to him for 20 min or so if the Gopher staff try to move him he will transfer to NDSU.

I think you will all be suprised at how good this kid is. Every team needs a power back who can break tackles and also make people miss.
