The Gopher Basketball teams need point guard with the likes of Melvin Newburn, Ariel McDonald,
Eric Harris, Bobby Jackson. They all had the HEART of LEADERSHIP. They came to play
everyday. Hell even Townsend Orr, and Hoesa Critten had more heart than what we have
now.

Tubby find some people who have HEART!!!

Bobby Jackson played 2-guard at the U, dude.

Who is Hoesa Critten?

Who is Hoesa Critten?

Hosea was a legend in the late 90s. He was a walk-on that rarely played but became a fan favorite instantly. In any blow-out game, the fans would start chanting "PLAY H-O-S-E-A . . . PLAY H-O-S-E-A"

burton34, josh 87 knows who Hosea is. He was making a reference to the spelling of the last name. And the first name. lol

And the answer is not AN .. unless he starts making contested layups and becomes a decent threat to score, that is.

If my memory is right, Bobby J did play some point guard when Harris rested.

EH played like 35 minutes a game their senior year. The implication above is that he was our PG. He was not.

Alright, my bad. Although in my defense, there are a lot of youngsters on here that probably have no idea who he is.

If my memory serves me right he started out and played a lot at pg his jr.
year. Some one made the comment back then that he was shooting guard trapped in a point guard body. He is one of my all time favorties. You had to see him in person to appreciate how quick he was.

Bobby Jackson was as close as one can get to be a sure thing coming out of college and going to the NBA. What the Gophers need now is the next Bobby Jackson, Cory Joseph comes to mind. The improvement would be huge... We're just a player (or two) away from really being a good team.

Totally disagree. To preface what is to follow, I would like to say first that Bobby Jackson, hands down, is my favorite Gopher player of all time (within the context of my fan-dom). But a sure-fire NBA player he was not.

Start with his height - 6'2" maybe? Short.

Did not play point guard for his college team - yes, Station19, I think you are correct, he started there, but was moved early on (he missed the first 10 games or so of his Jr. also). He was moved because it was obvious his primary position on those teams was as the scoring guard. Emm-effer could finish. You think LW can finish at the rim? For those of you who never saw him play, he could fin-eee-eye-ish. And one.

Awesome rebounder. Not just for a guard. Incredible with loose balls. Superb defender. Lights out free throw shooter. Big Ten Defensive player of the year as a senior (and overall POY as well). Winner (something LW doesn't understand).

Extremely quick. Tenacious. A joy to watch.

Did NOT shoot the 3 well. Didn't shoot it very much, as I recall.

Damn, he sounds good. I'm not very convincing. But I'm telling you, he was no sure thing as an NBA player and had to fight and scrap and claw his way to a role and then had a couple incredible seasons and, in the end, was a very servicable NBA player. And made lots of money.

And yes, we could use another guy like Bobby. That would be fun.

I disagree that the problem at point guard is a lack of heart. Devoe simply isn't a natural point guard and Cobbs is a freshman. I do agree that has been a long time since the Gophers had a good point guard.

To me it's the curse of Kevin Burleson. I don't know how many of you were around the GopherHole when KB was the point guard, but I'd go out on a limb and say that NOBODY has been ripped as badly as Burleson was. The funny thing is that Burleson eventually had a few cups of coffee in the NBA (Charlotte Bobcats) and was obviously not that bad of player. I am mostly kidding, but it's like karma came back to bite Gopher once Burleson graduated. "You think KB was bad, look what you'll have at pg for the next X years" . Many posters (myself included) thought Adam Boone would be a nice upgrade from Aaron Robinson when ARob graduated. Then Kevin Payton, Limar Wilson...you get the picture. We also had a kid named Kris Collins on campus for about a month at some point.

Well, Seattle thought he was ... took him w/their 1st round pick in 97.

True. But a late first rounder is no sure thing. How long did he play there? In any case, he lasted quite a while in The League for a short, relatively poor outside shooter (relative to the other parts of his game). And obviously he ran the point in the pros and did develop an outside shot (or he never would have made it.) Sure would have loved to see him *more* in a T-Wolves uniform. Gamer. That's what BJ was. A winner. Last guy we had like that here was Vincent Grier.

If you could combine KB and A-Rob, you might have something. KB was a very servicable point guard. He could shoot the 3, but was missing that extra gear and made the occasional bonehead play - and one of them cost us an NCAA bid, as you allude to.

A-Rob was about 5'2", but his senior year he showed about as much heart as any player I've seen. But yeah, Cobbs == freshman. A-Rob, one very good year. Cobbs is probably well ahead of A-Rob at this point.

I guess the combo of KB and A-Rob would be......Bobby Jackson?
