Podcast of the 7-12-15 Sport Huddle with Sid & Dave – Guest Jerry Kill

JK Notes: Freshman Incoming Recruits? Maybe in a little better shape than we expected. Quinn Oslund looks good. He stands out!
All the OL recruits look the part.
The secondary incoming freshman can run.
We didn't recruit anybody who is lacking.
Freshman look better than upper class kids in some cases.
Sid's first question...what do you think of the Garnett signing? Kill: Well, they got a young team. I think KG will be good, he'll be like a coach for the young guys.
Sid again: Ever had seen a tougher opening two games on a schedule? Well, in 32 years I have not played a tougher schedule. The whole schedule right on down, bowl teams, only one bye week. Our schedule is very, very, very difficult. But that's all part of it. We come out of it we'll be going someplace good. Great challenge ahead of us but that's life too.
Sid: Spring injury people healed? Scoot Epke is very important to us. He is critical. He looks good.
Nick Rallis gets sore. I'm worried about that. He might possibly be a question mark.
John Christensen is important and he's a full strength...doing well.
Jeff Borchardt won't be able to play this year but we expect him to recover and play next year from the brain surgery.
Sid: Redshirt help? Well, we played a lot of freshman. Excited to get Duke back.
All the redshirt receivers are critical pieces. Gentry, Gant, Holland somebody has to step up if not all three.
Jeff Jones will eligible to play...(not much enthusiasm to comments on Jeff imo...guarded tone)
Those four are all critical.

Word of the day...Jerry said "critical" 63 times in 10 minutes.

TCU: TCU forces turnovers but we didn't play very good. Defense on short field all the time. Our offense will be the key to the game.
Can't give them anything. Excited to play them at home.
Camp recruit offers: Several offers from the camps out to kids. Camps critical. Spring practices in south critical and two more criticals I missed. Can't make ,mistakes on kids we recruit. We haven't made too many and we can't.

After Jerry left: First topic why don't we play No Dak and So Dak.? Sid and Dave both in strong agreement the Gophers should be playing them because it would fill the stadium and New Mexico St doesn't. No Dak St for certain. Obviously we'd beat them now.
Not word for word but the gist for sure overall here.

Minor correction JK talked about Nick Rallis not Nick Wallace.

Great stuff Killjoy and '60s Guy!

I have a couple comments about the interview. First off - what is this:

Sid's first question...what do you think of the Garnett signing? Kill: Well, they got a young team. I think KG will be good, he'll be like a coach for the young guys.

-How random is that? Could next weeks question be about the non-Grexit or the Chinese Stock Market? Sheesh....

After Jerry left: First topic why don't we play No Dak and So Dak.?

-I remember in High School when Title IX was passed and other teams always seemed to have a Girl Wrestler on the team. One of our guys would have to wrestle her. In this situation, you win and everyone remembers you beat up on a girl, you lose and your career is done. That's how I feel about NDSU or South Dakota. You beat them and it accomplishes nothing; you lose and there goes the season. It puts butts in the seats; but there's nothing in it for us.

--Sid needs to bow out gracefully. I respect the history there, but you want to get out before you make a total fool of yourself and that's your legacy.

+1 and I would add that putting those schools on the schedule helps their programs immensely while doing nothing for ours and we don't need to prop up schools that are close enough to be recruiting same players. We are IMO at a level now where we are getting some kids to take a PWO offer at the U over a scholarship at those schools. We want those decisions to go our way and making NDSU and SDSU more attractive doesn't help us.

Are we really dissing NDSU as one of "those schools" and as an "obvious" win? Short Term Memories. Yes, we are better than when we lost to them, but you are blind if you don't see them as a legitimate team.

Reread both posts that were against playing NDSU SDSU. Neither mentions it as an automatic win, it's just no win for the gophers. No benefit to winning, huge downside to losing.

So "Obviously we'd beat them now" doesn't mean automatic win? Also, they were lumped with SD as one of "those schools" which is self explanatory.

I didn't single anyone out, btw, just the general theme. I am not a Bison Backer, but I do respect their program.

Sid probably forgot who they were interviewing.

Regardless of what others think I would love to schedule a game with the Fighting Whioux, loads of pride on the line though.

That's Great!

Minor correction JK talked about Nick Rallis not Nick Wallace.
I had no clue who Nick Wallace was, but was in a hurry. Thanks Mike! Makes a lot more sense.

Someone in Sid's family needs to throw in the towel. This has become painful listening. CBS will not drop the Sports Huddle unless it is a Sid Hartman property. The only question becomes who will they chose for the huddle? Will Dave Mona stay, and if so how much longer? Do they find a knowledgeable contrarian to pair with Mona. Or do they find two new talents? I do not want to see or listen to Mike Max. And if they slide him into the chair with Mona, fogitaboutit

gettaboutit.
