As anyone close to me knows, I am a HUGE Golden Gopher fan. I have invested thousands of dollars in season tickets, countless hours going to games, and a ton of emotional energy cheering on the team.

Here is where I need some help: I took my Son-In-Law to the game on Saturday. My daughter (his wife) was pregnant with twins. During the opening big "M" formation and the subsequent march down to the end of the field, my Son in Law got a call from my daughter. Her labor had started - we had to leave the game before it even started. With all the logistics, I missed the entire game.

I've been waiting for years to see us win a trophy game. I had plans to run out on the field if we won to touch the pig. I missed it all! I'm happy to have 2 healthy twin Grand-daughters and I'll have a great story to tell them.

I would like to hear your accounts of the game so I can vicariously enjoy the experience. Please give me your thoughts and feelings when you were at the game and afterwords on the field.

Thanks in advance!!

I brought my cousin from LA. He is originally from MPLS. He loved the game. I told him he was probably the most optimistic gopher fan at the game since he doesn't have to live it every day. Even with all the empty seats the atmosphere was good.

Even though we had to stand on a block of ice for the whole game and couldn't feel my feet at the end of the game, it was well worth it. To see the team storm the field and celebrate with their fans. Also the mass exit of Iowa fans when Gray picked up the clinching first down was priceless.

Thanks Maxy!

I heard the place rocked between the 3rd & 4th quarters. Did the whole team run around with the pig? Where was our man Horton?

I'm also on the T in 243 (back row, middle) and it was amazing to give hell to the totally obnoxious trash Iowa fan sitting in front of us in his striped overalls. He started yelling that Weber was a racist in the first quarter. He shut up pretty quick when Coker fumbled.

The celebration was great; a year's worth of frustration was let out. I'm sorry I didn't make it down to the field.

Horton got the water/gatorade bath. Fans rushed the field using the snow piles in the corners to do so. Music between 3rd/4th is really starting to catch on.

If it snows before the Illinois game next year, bring a cup of salt to the game. Standing on ice for three hours is not a way to keep warm.

You guys have gotten us through the tough games. Always good to hear your group back there.

A group of Iowa fans just came in as we were leaving. Talking crap the whole time. They were a piece of work. I'm hoping they were the ones to eat their words. I was there long enough to "Boo" the Hawkeye team as they ran on to the field.

Mrs Bayfield and I were in the nth wave of fans "storming TCF" coming down from the upper deck. By the time we made it to the field, we lost track of the pig. Everyone on the field, players, fans, cheerleaders, etc had huge smiles. Players were hugged, offered congratulatory hand shakes and were in demand for photo's. We noted Olson and Gjere together and I wish I would have had my camera for that one of our likely book end T's or T/G combo for the next four years. Marquis was having a ball as he held young children for pics as well as group pics, etc. We made a point to let about a dozen players know how happy we were for them and for hanging in there.

The band kept on playing during the celebration from their perch as I would guess their post game show didn't happen. It was one big celebration, one that the players and fans enjoyed and will always remember.

Surreal...

Mrs. Billd and I really saw the final 5 minutes as surreal...It was like the football gods decided that Gopher Nation had been tortured enough and indeed Winged Victory would descend upon us.

...Imagine Zeus himself doing the 4th down spot to exactly match the end of the chain...resulting in a first down that ensured the Gopher win...

Everyone in the stands were up and cheering...with no Hawk fans in sight...to make up for 6 times this season we were denied in our own house!

We did not go down to the field, but seeing the mass of team and fans make their way from corner to corner, with an excellent close-up of Floyd on the JumboTron, was a spectacle to behold too.

Throw in the elements...and even though we brought de-icer, we'll need more next time...and it was MINNESOTA FOOTBALL as we all have dreamed it could be.

It was no dream though. Well worth the wait.

Congrats on the new family members! Raise them as Gophers of course!

Go Gophers! Enjoy Floyd!

Thanks Bill & Bayfield. Those were excellent accounts.

I already have matching Gopher "One-sies", Gopher Nook, and a little Buddy Gopher Jacket (it matches mine). I will have great stories to tell them about the day they were born. If we would have had boys, I would have nicknamed one of them Floyd.

When IOWA took the field, you could hear the roar. It felt like an opposing army had stormed the castle. Had a lump in my throat.

Loved hearing the "thump" of the mittens and gloves clapping. Loved watching the cold air coming out of players mouths on the sidelines. Felt like a "real" football game.

For me, the two most exciting parts of the game were 1) the recovered onside kick in the 1st quarter. There was truly a sense of excitement that I hadn't felt all year. And 2) the couple of defensive stands in the 4th quarter. Truly playing as a new team.

From another thread. best way to enjoy the game-day experience is to watch the final few minutes of the game and celebration afterward.

Thanks for the YouTube. I savored every second of that. It sounds like the noise definitely increased toward the end.

Watching the Security Guys tackling Gopher Fans was funny. Perhaps they were trying to show Iowa how it's done.

The chant:

Go Home Hawks

Go Home Hawks

...EXCELLENT!

When I got up to my seats, there was an Iowa fan on the Isle that looked to be in his mid to late 40's. He was with his wife and daughter (both not bad looking I might add). The great thing was this clown had his face all painted up with yellow and black tiger stripes. As I walked by I simply patted him on the shoulder and said "Nice Face Paint". His wife smiled and laughed and his daughter was embarassed. He was speechless.

I literally shed a tear when the Gophers recovered the fumble in the 4th quarter. I didn't lose it or start blubbering or anything like that. But, in the brief moment between the actual fumble and the ref's signal, I sort of soaked it all in and reflected how difficult it must have been for the entire team to endure a season like that, and start clawing their way out of it at the end - topped with an unlikely victory against a team that wanted to improve on their BCS bowl win from last season. Finally winning a trophy, Iowa, cold weather, snow piled in the corners, etc. etc. It sort of all pushed the emotions to a limit at that moment and I dropped a tear or two. It was easily hidden as everyone's noses were running anyway so wiping them away looked just like another nose adjustment.

I also felt bad because I wish I had brought my kids to the game. They would have loved the opportunity to get out on the field to celebrate with the team.

Anyway, congrats Grandpa and hopefully this will just be a footnote to the beginning of Gopher football waking up after decades of futility. Like you said, you'll have a great story to tell.

I was with my inlaws for thanksgiving and had to attend a funeral out of town saturday but hoped to make it back to their house in time to catch the game. Unfortunatly my mother in law had other ideas and I ended up spending the entire day out of town and away from any kind of tv so I ended up missing the entire thing also. It has been a long time since I have seen the gophers win a tropy game. Hopefully next year they bring the ax back in dramatic fashion. No wait, next year they will bring the ax back home.

Did you see the replay last night, it was great. We really did outplay them on both lines.
