I for one am a backer of Jerry Kill! Yes, for the record, I wanted Leach, but since Kill has been hired we need to support him 100%.

However, those who know me on the board (usually from Tubby's basketball board) know that I have a dissenting opinion of Joel Maturi and his leadership of the Athletic Department. I have been critical, opinionated, factual, and grate at the nerves of many Pro-Maturi GH'rs. In my current posts, I am still getting lots of shots from Joel M supporters, but not as many as I would have expected.

I am reaching out to the moderators of Gopher Hole and to all the Joel Maturi supporters who have confidence in his leadership that you consider starting a special Joel Maturi Forum or JM Fan club Forum on Gopher Hole to demonstrate this support! I bring this up just to show that M2S can be kind and compassionate, always thinking about others and the less fortunate.

I don't know who owns this board, but I would offer this idea as a suggestion where the masses of Joel Maturi fans can show their gratitude and support for your beloved AD. Where you all can gather and drink that "kool aid" together, sing Kumbaya, and live in peace and harmony without fear of dissension or controversy.

I honestly don't know of many Gopherholers who are pro-Maturi, in fact I would say they are an extremely small minority.

+1. I think most Gopher fans would be thrilled if Joel announced his retirement tomorrow. But that's not going to happen, so there's no sense worrying about it. All we can hope is that he doesn't scare Tubby away before President K can wish him well and have him escorted from the building. That time is probably 18 months away, sadly.
 

One of the reasons coaches were scared away was the fear that maturi would get an extension!!!
 


Better yet, how about they make a separate forum for the few who keep bringing up Maturi instead of talking about our head coach?

That shouldn't read current posts but constant never *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#ing ending posts.

Who the bleep is a fan of an A.D.? Though reading the level of bile and hysteria directed against the guy you'd think he raped poster's mothers. Now looking at the posts of many of the most strident posters many of them are trolls or old Masonites to be sure so it least it sort of makes some sense. If your just using hiring a failed football coach then whoever hired Wacker and Salem should also be on the massively hated list. So should Harvey MacKay and the M Club for the Salem hire and you'd have to add Harvey and the Downtown Council for the Dome too.

Here though it's all Maturi.

So yeah compared to your posts I'm a fan. Of course by those standards Palin would be a big Obama fan.

One of the things I despise about GopherHole and the local sports media is that it is never enough to just criticize a coach, general manager, or AD for their very public failures. We also have the need to absolutely destroy them and their reputations. Maturi and Brewster by all accounts are decent people who have wives and children who they love. Although they have made mistakes no crimes have been committed that I am aware of. The are just regular members of the community who are trying to do the best they can just like the rest of us. Why can't people let it go at that? Most of us consider sports to be a fun diversion from our normal lives. But all too often in GopherHole and in the local sports media it is a blood sport. Barreiro, for one, has elevated highly personal attacks against local sports figures to an art form. Sometime I feel the need to take a shower after reading and listening to some of this stuff.

You can always tell who spends the most time typing and posting as opposed to actually reading what others are saying.

No, dude, there aren't any takers, because Maturi doesn't have very many backers right now. That single fact undermines your whole post.

Well spoken. That fact is there are many on this board who have never managed, directed, owned, hired, fired, or anything remotely related to what people like Maturi and Brunicks do daily. Maturi is well educated, works very long hours, required to kiss everyones ass including those who need a kick in the balls instead. I have questioned some of his results but still support the program and his efforts. He can't tell us every detail and has no obligation to. Nobody here knows even 1/10th of the facts when it comes to the decisions he has made but people know if their not happy, it his fault.
 



Let's lay off the Maturi bashing. I think he knows what he knows by now. It is great we can all have an opinion and I am grateful for this forum that gives us all a chance to display our passions,opinions, and attitudes.

I think we should all take a break from bashing Joel M. He is a fine man and he means well. I disagree with some of his leadership and decisions but I am not perfect either. I agree with his hiring of Tubby Smith and agree that he and the lawyers are diligently working on a contract extension for Tubby. I may not always agree with him and I am sure he would not agree with me all the time either. However, I know we would have mutual respect and find areas we would have common agreement on as the basis for our relationship.

I hope he takes this as an opportunity to announce his retirement so we can all wish him his sincere best and move this program and department forward.
 

Iceland12 and gopherjay are right on the money. Couldn't possibly say it any better myself. Some posters on this board act like he's Jeffrey Dahmer or something. Lay off the guy. He's not perfect, he's made mistakes. Are you all so perfect you never make a mistake at work? joel's under intense pressures that you people know nothing about. He's accomplished more than most are willing to give him credit for.
 

How about we create a special forum for posters who beat to death their desire to cut 1/2 the non-revenue sports? You can be the king your own fantasy kingdom!!!
 

Too many have lost sight of the big picture. Yes, he swung and missed with Brewster and not everything has worked to plan. However, most of us, had we inherited the mess he did from the two stooges he replaced, would have run away long ago. I'm still amazed at how he brought those two departments together and stopped bleeding money every year. Throw in Tubby and the Stadium and I say "not bad at all."

Hopefully, Kill will be the homerun he needs to help bring things back into perspective. He's a great guy that cares about all of the athletes in his department, not just the star football players. I know that annoys many, but as a parent, it's the kind of person I want working in an educational institution.

Geez, I don't know. Just by looking at the writing skills of millions2spare, I'm sure he must be either the CEO of an international enterprise employing 1,000's; a neurosurgeon daily saving lives; or the president of a small exclusive private college.
