Beating a dead horse, but it bugs me that they decided on 4 teams for the playoff with no automatic bids. I don't like the perceptions of conferences being better than others and trying to fit five conferences into four spots.

6 would be better and 8 would be great.

Right now with five auto berths it would be:

#1 Mississippi State vs Ohio St
#2 Oregon vs #7 Baylor
#3 Florida St. vs #6 Arizona St
#4 TCU vs #5 Alabama.

Six Teams with five auto berths
#3 Florida St vs #6 Ohio St.
#4 TCU vs #5 Alabama.

#1 and #2 get byes.

Play the quarterfinals on campus of higher seed or designate NFL stadiums. I prefer home stadium of higher seed as it will be hard to get teams to travel four times for games in they play conference championship, quarter, semi, and final.

You are going to get really intriguing match-ups with 8 teams.

An 8 team field is the correct answer.

I agree. People will say it's too early to nit pick this system but I think that tying it into the bowl system and not having 8 teams was just a dumb decision. You had the opportunity to make a bunch more money by giving the fans 7 playoff games instead of 3, and you had the opportunity to have a real playoff with little to no controversy. Yes, there will always be complaints (see basketball), but the argument would be more along the lines of complaining that you didn't get in rather than complaining that you were the best team in the country.

But they screwed the pooch. Now we'll have to watch 2 SEC teams with the other 4 conferences fighting for 2 spots most years. And the real crime is that we are locked into this system for 12 years aren't we?

Excellent points by both of you. I do think they'll find a way to scrap the 12-year agreement, or however many years it is. Where there's a will, there's a way. My guess is 2015 will be the second and last year of a 4-team playoff. 5 auto qualifiers (guarantees all the big boys represented) + 3 at-larges just makes too much da*n sense. They're idiots if they don't move quickly to an 8-teamer.

A genie can come and grant you your wish and I bet the very next person to get it will ask for 10 teams. And once you realize 10 isnt enough your next wish is 12, 16, 20 etc... I would hope you at least give one year for the imperfect playoff system to play out prior to fixing the championship system all over again after the BCS got "fixed".

Quit your complaining and just enjoy college football as it is. And if you really want to enjoy a true tournament to crown a championship then I suggest you hybernate til March and try to not snore too loud.

Your opinion sucks.

Your opinion sucks.

Thats fine with me as I don't even care about your opinion as it matters none. So again I feel people should not complain about a system in its first year and you feel that opinion sucks... Complain on, we heard it every year with the BCS, will hear it each year with the CFP, and even if ArseMatt got his way and the complaints got the system changed the complaints will never stop. When 4 teams turns to 8 people will want 10. When 8 turns to 10 people will want 12 and the abilitiy to satisfy everyone will be as likely as ArseMatt convincing me his opinion matters.

I don't think people will complain for more than 8. They may complain about a team missing out, but there really aren't enough weekends to make in feasible without cutting back on regular season games or eliminating byes. The FCS has 24 teams in the playoffs, but they start the playoffs the last weekend of FBS season.

Eight is the magic number. Five conference champs and three at large. Only thing that makes sense and should have been that way to start.

Agree with everything except the "home stadium for higher seed part." Too arbitrary, and way too big of an advantage to the home team based on an arbitrary decision. This would greatly diminish the need to move from 4 to 8.

That said, the playoff games shouldn't all be in SE/S/SW locations, as well.

Under the 8 team playoff the first round would be a home game for the top 4 teams. Then you got two more games set up just like this year to detetmine natl champ.

And then it's just like the NFL.....of which we already have one.
I think the most unique thing about major college sports is how the postseasons differ from their professional counterparts.

I am sure someone else has suggested this, but IMHO 8 teams with 5 auto bids for the conference champions and 3 at large bids.

Is it okay if we complain about you complaining about the complaining?
