I figured I'd do another of these. I don't have time to do as much as I did last time, but I figured I'd post some quick thoughts.

- Highpoint of the game (besides the ridiculous dunking) was the student section mocking the Siena coach's hand gestures. Absolutely hilarious. I have to admit, I wasn't in the student section, and even I had to join in the fun. Good times. As bad as the student section has been for football, it's been pretty great for basketball so far.

- I like the gold uniforms a lot better than the white.

- Mo Walker was pretty invisible for a man his size.

- Maverick has a LONG way to go. Tubby wasn't able to rely on him at all tonight.

- Rodney is still showing some aggressiveness, which I like. He's still fading on his jumpshot though. He has pretty good form. Hopefully, he'll start knocking them down soon. In the meantime, I like his focus on getting in the lane. Plus, he should basically have his own segment on sports center by now. Ridiculous dunking ability. I wish he'd work on dunking with one hand though.

-Hollins was the freshman to step up. I liked his outside shooting, I liked his cuts to the basket, I (mostly) liked his D, and I liked that he looked to create his own shot once in a while.

- Armelin is going to really help us down the road. We have two guys on this entire team who can get to the bucket, and so far, Armelin's the only one who can finish. His outside jumper will be off and on, but Armelin hustles, and as long as he's able to get to the hole every now and then, he'll be invaluable.

- Trevor was beasting. Absolutely a destroyer of worlds. His hands still worry me at times, and I still don't like that he doesn't always go up strong, but you can't argue with another double-double. He needs to knock down his free throws though. He's going to get a ton of them.

- Al was Al. Mostly played in control, did a better job of dishing in the lane, made an outside jumper, looked poor on free throws, but was definitely the best point guard option, and looked to run on occasion, which is important, because we still have trouble in the half-court set.

- Colt didn't look great. When he's on a good run, he's attacking the basket and finishing strong. When he's off, like he is now, he starts fading away from the basket, even on uncontested layups. He had a couple that he should be able to make in his sleep that he missed. Plus, he doesn't box out well enough.

-Ralph was sleep walking. Still fades on everything, couldn't make a jumper, wasn't great at free throws, and doesn't box out at all. However, he's done a better job this year at getting tip-ins, and he still does a good job on the pick and roll with getting to the bucket for easy twos.

- Blake's threes weren't as automatic as usual, but he still kept shooting and hit a big one down the stretch. He made some uncharacteristically poor decisions when he was playing point, including trying to throw a three quarter court alleyoop.

- I liked that we were able to bounce back. Our interior D stopped Rossiter, but Jackson's ability to get his shot off was worrying. Siena's ability to get their shot off was troublesome. We still look much better when we can get out and run, although the pick and roll with Ralph worked a few times last night.

- One last thing, I think Siena would be a lot better with a different coach. He was raving like few I'd ever seen. He called too many timeouts, he absolutely lambasted his players and the refs every time he had a chance, and basically, I was wondering if we'd see another Ricky Byrdsong moment, i.e. a complete mental and emotional breakdown from the coach. Siena's got a talented squad though, just like Wofford. I think both of those teams should have a reasonably good chance to make the tourney this year.

Sounds like a good summary for those of us who missed (most of) the game.

Siena shot 51% from the field and 53% from 3 pt range. Some of this was good ball movement and bad defense, another part was a really really hot player in Jackson. We are bad at giving up 3 pointers, usually because of an inside out pass as we double the post no matter if he is an all-american or the 12th man on the team, but this was just a hot player knocking down everything. It wasn't from a pass in the post back out usually.

Siena and Wofford should make the tournament because they play in terrible conferences. Put them in the Big Ten and they're fighting with Michigan and PSU for 10th place.

What's your point? Since when is it embarrassing to beat your peer schools by winning your conference tournament?

Great insight, Art.

/Sarcasm.

We barely beat Siena at home and now your going to insult them. Siena and their athleticm could probably give Northwestern and Indiana a run for 6th place.

Art, respectfully, have you already decided both Wofford and Siena are going to stink this season? Let's at least let the season play out a little bit before we determine that they stink. You may be right, both may end up struggling and be nowhere near as good as last season, but I think it's a little premature to throw dirt on 'em. Personally, I was more impressed with Siena than Wofford. After seeing Siena, I'm surprised they got beat -- at home, no less -- by a retooling Vermont squad.

Another kudos to the write-up, jmag21. Since I can't watch many, probably most of the games this season, a post like this is going to be really helpful to get some idea about the players and their progress.

Hollins and Armelin could be real keys to this season. We need scoring from the 3 spot(especially outside shooting) with the loss of Westy and Carter. Tubby likes to play a lot of players and these two could provide the needed depth.

I didn't see the game but I mentioned to a friend who did that you guys seem all to be down on Sampson. She said, "He's a beast," like what the hell are you talking about? You love Mbakwe, you hate Sampson, but Ralph always has more crooked numbers in the box score. This ain't ski jumping, ya know, style points don't count.
