I heard or read Brew a couple of times stating that "he" called this play or that in the past game. Is he actually doing the play calling? Or is he calling plays in certain situations? Or is it that he was taking all of the blame for the game? I honestly don't know, and was hoping someone could illuminate me.

Not sure on that, but the way mentioned it in his press conference, I got the impression that Horton normally calls plays, but Brew specifically called for the pitch out on the 4th and 2. Just my impression though, and perhaps it was as you say, and he was just taking a bullet for Horton.

I honestly don't know, but he may be taking a bullet here. I'll have to admit I didn't see the play because a political candidate came to the door.

A candidate door-knocking during a Gopher game? Striiiiiiiiiiike 1.

This is of course one of those "a friend of a friend told me" situations, but I heard that Brew doesn't call ANY plays and that he rarely has even input on most of the play-calling.

About Brew, here's what I find telling. In his Tuesday presser he says that they sat down and watched the tape and figured out where they were out of place in pass coverage and they fixed it... on Sunday.

Why aren't they catching these things during the game?

I'm beginning to be fearful that Brew is a great recruiter, and the face of the program, but that he really doesn't know x's & o's at all.

I agree, how do you not make those sort of adjustments in-game? Is it that hard to figure out a slant pass?

We got killed on slants, screens and rollouts. Not the hardest things to scheme against.

Haven't we sort of known this all along? In my opinion, Brewster has a nice image of what he would like the program to be, but he has no concrete idea as to how to get it there. He is a great recruiter, and the past couple of classes have been better than what you could normally expect. I think a lot of that goes back to his ability to say the right things, which is how I understand he got the job in the first palce. He gives great presentations and connects with people, which are definite assets. But you are right, he's not a x's & o's coach, so I think in critical situations there's a leadership vacuum or hesitation on the sidelines. I wouldn't be so quick to blame his lack of coordinator experience, since being a coordinator and being a great head coach don't always go hand in hand.

I think going for it or not he's got to make the call on. The actual play?, not so much. Leave it to the guys who've been doing it for years.
