Made ya look. :p

But seriously, I've been watching the NFL attention that seems to be swarming Matt Rhule from Baylor, talking about the "culture" he would bring to a "program" specifically. It seems like he's a goner from Baylor, just a matter of where. Other young college coaching standouts are buzzy right now too, but haven't heard PJ's name yet.

Do we think PJ has gotten NFL calls? (probably) Would he even be interested, or is his personality made for college? Would he be effective at that level?

If he went to the Vikings Row the Boat works very, very well. But if he fails he wrecks both my teams at once.

Good point.

Honestly, I can imagine an NFL owner giving him a shot, but I’m not sure he’d be interested.

Somehow I can’t see him as an NFL head coach. He likes to recruit kids to fit his culture. Pretty tough to do anything close to that in the NFL. He would have to put up with a lot more knuckleheads on the team, and his schtik wouldn’t go over as well.

PJ is big into the kids.

There is a long list of motivators, college program CEOs, and rah rah guys who fall on their face in the NFL.... including Saban.

Sorry but no NFL guy is really gonna care about row the boat culture and what pj has to say

Unless he’s been a total charlatan, zero chance PJ has NFL aspirations. This is a stupid thread.

Don’t be so certain. While it’s unlikely it will happen soon or directly from Minnesota, I would be surprised if Fleck doesn’t return to the pro game to coach in some regard over the next 25 years or so of his career.

PJ may not have immediate NFL aspirations but there’s one thing he has and that’s...aspirations. He’ll get there.

Maybe someday, but his future is in the college game.

Tend to agree with this line of thinking. At some point he may want to go to the NFL but right now he is a much better fit for the college game. I honestly think he loves recruiting and would be bored at the NFL level without it.

I just can't imagine NFL players running down the field after a quarter ends and I also can't imagine PJ altering his schtick to fit into the NFL. He may have bigger hopes than U of M someday, but it will be in college.

If Pete Carroll can be a good NFL coach, so can an older PJ Fleck. They‘re both energetic, positive, love their players, and can manage a team.

He has a few championships to get yet before he can even entertain the Pros.

I had a message on my phone from the Vatican that I did not return.

For his stake, I hope he doesn't even answer the phone if the Browns call.

The Browns are back? No they're not.

PJ would be about as successful as Head Coach in the NFL as Lou Holtz was with the NYJ.

I could see him as a Wide Receiver Coach. Wasn't he an assistant coach in the NFL already? Probably would be a significant pay cut

Yeah, good thing you got this thread started before 2045

I don't think he'd enjoy NFL coaching nor would he be as effective there. But I can see him wanting to coach in a market where his program is the darling of the state rather than a college program in a pro-sports market. Nebraska would seem to be appealing to him -- a once-proud program that needs pepping up and wildly loyal, focused fans. Nevertheless, I'd expect him to stay here at least a few more years hoping to improve on even this year's fine record. Would be nice to even repeat this year's performance but beat UW and Iowa.

I'm not saying you're wrong. Only PJ and those very close to him know. But I will say that some people look for both a challenge and a way to make a name for themselves. Paterno did it at Penn State, Alvarez did it at Wisconsin, Fry did it at Iowa, these guys are historical legends at those schools and beyond, and they are legends because not only did they create success, but they kept it and their loyalty; Fleck can be the same at Minnesota. There are a ton of PJ Flecks who have totally flamed out when put into a bigger spotlight. I bet few of us easily recall the name of the huge hire Michigan made about a decade ago (the Gophers were looking at him when they ended up with Ol' Jer) who went from being the biggest name in the coaching market to a total career-ending failure in just a few seasons. For every Nick Saban going from successful MSU to Alabama, there are multiple Bret Bielemas who end their bigtime head coaching careers with similar decisions.
