Shot selection is a primary area of focus for Washington. On Monday, Pitino sought a stat on Washington and flipped through the game notes for Tuesday’s game against Nebraska at Williams Arena to find it.

“When you are shooting 20 percent from three, you probably shouldn’t shoot a lot of threes,” Pitino said. “And that is taking him some time to understand that. I think sometimes freshmen want to prove you wrong: ‘No, I can make shots.’ ”

Washington was 0 for 5 from deep against the Hawkeyes, but had seven assists. Against the Wolverines he shot and missed one three, was 11 for 15 from two-point range and dished three assists.

“Last game, he was productive,” Pitino said. “It was two-foot finishes at the rim, so much, much better last game.”

Go Gophers!!

Earlier in the season, the entire roster was shooting close to 40% or above from 3 point range, but IW all by himself brought us down several percentage points with something akin to 2-38 shooting???

Hey, I love the guy, I really do. I was one of the first here that was pimping him and his potential, but it was only AFTER I saw him stop shooting the ball from outside that I saw this improvement. The guy can drive to the basket like no other I've seen in a very long time.

He'll eventually develop his outside shot, ESPECIALLY when people start to really respect his inside game. Drive to the basket, dish to open teammates OR put up a lay off, hope your teammates get the rebound, if it doesn't go in, hope to get fouled. SO many options.

IW's going to be a special player, legendary maybe even. Under the tutelage of RP.
