In the second half of a 78-72 victory in the NIT quarterfinal at Middle Tennessee State in March, Hollins recalled, he and Smith called different plays during one possession.

"But he let me run the play I called," Hollins said, but couldn't recall the exact play. "So he's starting to trust me, and I'm starting to understand the game more. I understand what he wants to run, and I understand what needs to be called at the time with the way that the defense is playing us."
