per Marcus:

During University of Minnesota president Eric Kaler's news conference last week announcing the resignation of athletics director Norwood Teague amid sexual harassment complaints, several Gophers boosters were unhappy that he did not accept responsibility for hiring him three years ago.

When it comes to finding the next AD, the question among some prominent Gophers supporters is whether Kaler can get it right this time.

Pat Fallon, chairman of Fallon Worldwide, an advertising agency based in Minneapolis, exchanged emails with his booster friends recently pointing out issues he had with nobody taking blame for bringing Teague to the university.

"I'm a CEO of a company and you have to step up and accept responsibility when you're in the chair," Fallon said. "(Kaler is) in the chair. And this is a mess. The committee, whoever he assigned and however it was done, they failed miserably. At the end of the day, he has to take responsibility for the way he mishandled the whole mess."

Go Gophers!!

I think we're a day or two away from Adam Kelly re-insertnig himself into the narrative.

Go Gophers!!

Ya, never been a CEO who accepted responsibility--and bundles of cash out the door. Red meat for the media for the week. Damn, why couldn't the dentist have waited a couple of weeks to slay Cecil. That would have distracted the media until the state fair and nobody would have to be outraged.

I laughed out loud. Poor Cecil.

Well, to play devil's advocate, Kaler is the top dog, and does have to accept some responsibility for his hiring decisions. The big question remains: did anyone at the U, including Kaler, have any inkling that Teague had issues with booze and women? I think it's fair to question the search process. How much did they dig into Teague's background - including the gender discrimination complaint filed against Teague while he was still at VCU.

He certainly does, SON. And he will. I'm simply reacting to the headlines and lead stories by media that basically gives us fluff well over half the time (how great the Vikings stadium is, or D*p**** Eric Perkins being stupid, or people all riled up over Cecil or supposedly journalists frolicking At the Lake) suddenly becoming Cronkite and Bernstein when there's a problem at the U. God knows, the U certainly gives them opportunities over and over, but they generally pounce on it. Hell, I don't know--maybe I'm in "Shoot the messenger mode,"--just disgusted and bummed by the whole thing. At a place with that many agendas, as well as politicians looking for fame, this thing could ruin a whole lot of things. I'll feel better when we beat TCU and the shovels actually get into the ground.

If Teague didn't have a criminal record or been sued, tell me how are we supposed to know he was a bad guy? That discrimination lawsuit was filed after he had already agreed to take the position here and they are pretty standard shakedowns by disgruntled employees. Teague had a reputation as dialed into coaching world and as an excellent fundraiser. No one had ever complained about him before as far as we know. I guess the only red flag was he's a bachelor. Maybe now some people will come out of the woodwork, but you'd think they would have by now consider this is national news. Maybe they're hiring their legal teams and primping for the camera. We'll have to wait and see. Outside of Teague I doubt this brings anyone else down. They'll blame it all on that horrible, horrible man and we'll move on.

Correct. You can only go so far in investigating a potential hire and there are boundaries.
