per Marcus:

Despite only getting one carry (for a 20-yard touchdown) in the Citrus Bowl loss to Missouri, Williams had accepted his role. He supported Cobb being the workhorse back for the entire season.

"He has been waiting for his opportunity, and he's taking it seriously," Kill said. "He's been a good leader. He expects a lot out of his teammates. Teammates respect him because you know what you're going to get out of him. He's going to play hard. He has earned that respect. I know he'll be ready to play."

Williams, who weighed as much as 250 pounds, lost 20 pounds in the offseason. He feels more equipped to handle 20-plus carries a game for the Gophers this season.

"I don't know if I could've lasted," he said. "I feel like I can do it now. I feel like I have the burst and can last as long as anybody else."
