per Marcus:
Gophers basketball coach Richard Pitino had a productive last couple days, meeting with recruits, and then with his new boss, University of Minnesota athletics director Mark Coyle, for the first time.
Pitino met with Hopkins senior Amir Coffey and University President Eric Kaler on Wednesday. He met with Coyle and then with John Marshall senior Michael Hurt and his family on Thursday afternoon.
“We asked about how the conversation with the new athletic director went,” Hurt’s father, Richard, said. “He said, ‘it went well.’ ”
Hurt and Coffey can’t help but hear the negativity surrounding the program since they live in Minnesota. Pitino and his three assistants met with Hurt’s family in Rochester on Thursday. Pitino and assistant Ben Johnson met with Coffey at his home in Hopkins on Wednesday. They both spoke to Coffey’s father on Thursday.
“Certainly, for all four of them to take the time to come down and reassure us and have the conversation about (off-court issues are) not what their program is about and the things they’re trying to do and put into place was good,” Richard Hurt said. “We had a nice talk for about an hour. (Pitino) just wanted to reaffirm his commitment to us as a family and to Michael specifically. He respected the loyalty we’ve had from the very beginning. It was very well received.”
