A three-time captain, Leidner is 22-16 as a starter and is climbing the Gophers records book. But with Minnesota relying on their running game this season, Leidner’s personal stats have dipped. It’s tailback tandem Rodney Smith and Shannon Brooks that have led the way to 30 rushing scores, second in the Big Ten.

Besides eight rushing touchdowns, Leidner has thrown 25 percent fewer passes than last season through 10 games, and his completion percentage (58.9) and passing yards (187 a game) are down, as well. But the big difference has been in touchdowns and interceptions. Last year through 10 games, he had 11 touchdowns and seven interceptions — this year it’s five and seven.

On the run/pass disparity, Gophers offensive coordinator Jay Johnson said, “I don’t really even pay attention to it, I’ll be honest. We’re just trying to score.”

Go Gophers!!

Being one dimensional is something the team can get away with against the likes of Ill and Purdue. They will need to stretch out the defenses of NW Wisc. somehow if they stand a chance of beating them.

Kind of an odd thing to say. Many programs have staff keeping track of plays to help avoid tendencies from building. It's hard to argue with our scoring in the red zone this year but sustaining drives has been kryptonite.

Once again I really question the new hire as OC. We were promised a "big" change in offensive schemes. Some no huddle, lots of motion with quick counter plays, a variety of screen passes, etc... So far we seem to be locked in with zone read right, tailback power right, pass, punt. Perhaps he should look at the stats and see what's not working.

The offense has been different...

We were? I thought we were told the offense would be pretty similar.
