1. IOWA

The Gophers often use the word “hate” to describe their rivals from the south. The series dates back to 1891, and teams have battled for the Floyd of Rosedale trophy since 1935. Iowa and Minnesota have split the past six games, and three have been within a five-point margin.

2. WISCONSIN

The nation’s longest-running series — 125 games — checks in as runner-up because the Badgers have won Paul Bunyan’s Axe 12 straight times since 2003. Wisconsin players acted like they were going to chop down a goal post at TCF Bank Stadium after their 2013 win, and that taunt got the Gophers’ blood boiling.

3. NEBRASKA

The Gophers upset ranked Huskers teams in 2013 and 2014, and the mock $5 Bits of Broken Chair Trophy was created. Gophers guard Joe Christenson talked smack before last year’s game, and the Huskers rolled to a 48-25 rout. Some Huskers cited the trash talk as added motivation.
