per Marcus:
Exactly four years ago Saturday, Hoese's father, Terry, died after a stroke put him in a coma the week Minnesota was preparing to play Middle Tennessee State.
Hoese, playing with a heavy heart, had a critical fumble recovery during a fourth-quarter comeback and scored three touchdowns, including the game-winner, in the Gophers' 24-17 victory in Murfreesboro, Tenn.
"It brings up difficult memories," Hoese said this week, "but also some good times."
In the time since then, Minnesota's program has rebounded from a rough 2010 season, Tim Brewster's last as head coach, under coach Jerry Kill. Few fans might even remember that victory over the Blue Raiders, yet it remains a special moment for Gophers who played in that game.
That's especially true for Hoese, who joined the Gophers as a walk-on out of Glencoe-Silver Lake High School in 2007.
"There were a lot of emotions going through that game," he said. "I knew my dad would want me to go down and play. He was always cheering us on. So I decided to be with my Gopher family that day."
