It’s Axe Week, and another year has been added since the Gophers have beaten the Badgers. Minnesota hasn’t won the traveling trophy since 2003, and haven’t carried it across state lines from Madison since 1994.

The Gophers (8-3, 5-3 Big Ten) will get another crack at it on Saturday, when they meet No. 5 Wisconsin (9-2, 6-2) for a 2:30 p.m. kickoff at Camp Randall.

Claeys and the majority of his staff have been a part of five straight losses in the rivalry, leaving him at a loss for words with his car salesman. “It’s hard to bite back when you haven’t had it for a while,” he said. “We need to do everything we can to get that changed.”

Go Gophers!!

Then play to win and don't run it up the middle every damn play. Take some chances!

Exactly. This is a rivalry game guys - you have to come out confident and inspired. So the complete opposite of what has happened since Claeys took over. You don't play it safe when you're the underdog.

Yep, when you're the underdog you cannot play your usual game. One has to take chances. Go for it on 4th down. Downfield passing, fake punts, onside kicks (maybe not that!) This will increase the possible variance, ie we could win but we could also get blown out.

I would agree some of the players it has bothered hearing about for 1-4 years. What about us fans who have witnessed losses each year going back to 2003. Like what is mentioned above-- time for Claeys to pull out every possibly play and I would rather see us play to win vs a moral victory and keeping in from being an embarrassment. I am still ticked at Kill from 2 years ago when he babied the lead going into half and looked what happened.

Win the damn Axe and we'll stop talking about it.

Tired of the Badgers chopping down you goal posts then do something about it.

Couldn't agree any more. Just do it. Even Kansas stopped some losing streak to Texas since 1938.

Win the f-kn Axe.

Play your best game, put four quarters together and out hustle them. If the Gophers are tired of hearing about it then they are the one's that need to do something about it. It's not voodoo and X's and O's science, they have been whipping the Gophers butts at the line of scrimmage and kicking our lineman's tails for a long time. You want to knock someone off the high horse, punch them back. The offensive and defensive lines decide these games, and for the last four years the Badgers have kicked the tail end out of the Gophers offense and defensive lines. If Pirsig has ever thought about being mean, now would be the time. Let it all out, and dish it back at them.

Kansas beat Texas, for the first time since 1938, if they can pull off that feat, then the Gophers should be able to win once in a Blue Moon in Madison. 1994 was the last time the Gophers won in Madison, and that was a poor Gophers team that made a stand. Even a blind squirrel finds a nut some times, so if they can find something that gives them an edge then do it. Quite frankly Gopher fans are tired of hearing about the twelve year streak also, and seeing them chop the posts down all of the time with their smug and taunting smiles has gotten really old. The biggest thing is knocking those suckers off the block by getting under their pads and using there height against them. Low man wins if you don't let them swallow you up.

"Even Tracy Claeys’ car dealer in Hudson, Wis., has given the Gophers coach a hard time about Minnesota’s failure to win Paul Bunyan’s Axe in the rivalry game against Wisconsin."

Normally I'm not too parochial but come on Tracy, buy your wheels in Minnesota.

Who goes to Hudson to buy a car? I thought the only thing they had over there to get excited about was Everclear and Spotted Cow.
