PiPress: Gophers starting tailback Kirkwood, Edwards questionable for New Mexico St

Kill said Edwards was out of his boot. With a high ankle sprain that is like taking baby shoes off a 6 month old baby and mircleously expect them to walk. Hope for the Western Illinois for Edwards and San Jose State for Kirklandwood

This is Cobb's big test. Is he the man? He has scuffled and shuffled. Often times attempting to run around a block he has a tendency to go too much east west and not enough north south. If he sticks and goes he could be the answer. Williams on the other hand is a legit Big 10 Back. Size and Power. He also shown the ability to catch the ball. I think the rotation will be Williams pounding it and Cobb slicing it. Split the carries or weight it more to Williams.

The way Kill guards this information like it's Soviet state secrets, I can't think of a time a player was announced as questionable a week in advance and actually played. Hope Rodrick and David are ready.

Get ready for the "Cobb and Nugget Show". Tee-hee-hee.

That made me laugh. In all seriousness, though, as long as the Kirkwood and Edwards injuries don't keep them out for too long, we should be alright. I don't think there's really a drop off from Kirkwood to Williams...we just can't afford any more RBs for depth reasons.

I would be ecstatic if Kirkwood and Edwards were both back by the San Jose State game. I'm not expecting it to happen though. These things can be a real pain to recover from.

I couldn't agree anymore!

If Kill has never played a player that was questionable, then it's not a secret when they are questionable. "Questionable" in football jargon means "50-50". If the kid has a 50% chance of playing, I'd say he's not playing. Why risk it?

Not only that, highwayman, but a 2nd stringer at 100% is going to do better than a stud at 50%.

Why risk what?

Edwards and Kirkwood will not play Sat. If they do by SJS we will be lucky. I understand high ankle sprain injuries can vary, but just look at the 'typical' timeline. We need to be leas beat up by the B1G season this year than last (which is why we are playing NMSU vs NCU) and that means not rushing these guys back. We never let Gray's ankle fully recover last year and I'd like to see us not repeat that scenario again this year.

Yeah I guess I don't really understand the question.....

My point is that given how reluctant Kill is to give away any information he doesn't have to (listing four starting punters the day before the 1st game, for example), announcing this early that both guys are questionable is tantamount to them not playing. Yes, technically a guy being listed as "questionable" means they are 50-50, but those distinctions are entirely arbitrary in reality and up to the discretion of the head coach.
