In Saturday's game against Purdue, Minnesota left little doubt of its in-your-face intention. The Gophers called on two and sometimes three tight ends, often with a fullback in front of a running back.

"Physically, we beat them," Kill said Sunday. "I thought Purdue thought they were going to kick our butt, too."

The Gophers were able to rush for 6.8 yards per carry against a 1-5 Purdue team that ranks 110th in rushing defense (215.2 yards per game).

The Gophers rushed 48 times to just 18 passes. No greater disparity was on display than a third-quarter drive where Minnesota rattled off nine straight runs for 54 yards to get to the Purdue 3.

On the next play, quarterback Mitch Leidner ran a bootleg and threw back to wide-open tight end Brandon Lingen for an easy touchdown.

"When we run the ball, it's going to be a heck of a lot easier to pass protect because we are going to wear them down," Kill said of step two in the game plan.
