The University of Minnesota secondary likes to call its part of the football program DBU, as in Defensive Back University. But even the Gophers admit that name is a work in progress.

Cornerback Briean Boddy-Calhoun hopes the nickname reaches a larger audience someday. “We’re trying to get this thing national,” he said. “But it just looks like it’s in Minnesota for now.”

The Gophers are not a known factory producing the latest high-end models of NFL D-backs, but come April, their totals could be two safeties and a pair of cornerbacks taken in the past three drafts.

Go Gophers!!

So that's why Miami stole "the U" moniker away from us.....
...they're U everything!

As long as Sawvel is here, we should keep churning out NFL DBs!

Left table is number of drafted players by school, right is a reverse point system (1st round pick=8 points, 2nd rounder=7 pts, 3rd rounder=6 pts, etc)

Top two tables are 10 years (2006-2015), bottom are 5 years (2011-2015)

I'll also note that I think the filters on the NFL website weren't working correctly in my post previously, and some players were left off because the position abbreviations weren't coded right. For the below figures I used wikipedia for the full draft figures.

Thanks for working that up. Pretty clear that while we will make up some ground after this years draft we will still have a ways to go before the "DBU" nickname can really gain some traction outside of Minnesota.

Just hard to compete against the sheer volume of draft picks from the blue blood teams.
