More than three years have passed since the Gophers program was shocked and saddened by Tinsley's sudden death. Now, they refuse to let the fog of time obscure their memory of the affable and talented linebacker.

"It's special and means a lot to me and to his family that he's still being remembered in that fashion," said Keanon Cooper, Tinsley's former roommate and teammate. "It's definitely due to the fact that he had a great impact on the people that he came in contact with, from teammates to teachers."

This season's redshirt seniors are the only Gophers who were with the program during Tinsley's tenure from 2008-11. However, the players have maintained the moment of silence, said offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover.

"Coach (Jerry Kill) mentioned it, and the kids were like, 'We already know,' " Limegrover said.

Sawvel said thoughts of Tinsley serve as a reminder that tomorrow isn't promised to anyone.

"He went to bed and didn't wake up," Sawvel said. "He went to bed; we all go to bed. That's the hard thing."
