Gophers football coaches didn’t have a personal connection with Flip Saunders, the former Gophers player and Timberwolves president and coach who passed away Sunday.
But offensive coordinator Matt Limegrover said Saunders was a topic in Monday’s staff meeting, “with him being a former Gopher and everything and being an icon here in the city.”
Limegrover said they took time to speak about how the coaches have been impacted by cancer. Saunders, who played at Minnesota from 1974-77, died from complications of Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
“He was a young guy,” Limegrover said. “That was pretty sad.”
