per Greder:
As the Holiday Bowl Parade’s large, inflatable animals were navigated around the bayfront Tuesday morning, a half-dozen Gophers fans floated their own comments and suggestions on the blemished state of the University of Minnesota’s football program.
The six diehard supporters who traveled from Minnesota to Southern California were split on how the university and the football team handed the suspensions of 10 players for their suspected involvement in an alleged sexual assault in September. The players, with support of the coaches, then held a two-day boycott of activities leading up to the bowl.
“I think they bungled it,” said David Olson of Minnetonka. “Football coaching staff, U of M administration, athletic department administration — all of them — the police department and the athletes, too.”
The majority of fans who spoke to the Pioneer Press expressed support for head coach Tracy Claeys to keep his job after the Gophers played Washington State at Qualcomm Stadium on Tuesday night. Claeys has taken criticism for supporting his players during the boycott, a move that was in opposition to U leaders.
