PiPress: For some Gophers, their next move could be transferring

Doubt anyone will transfer. There is more here at this point than football for most.

Oh man what a dissapointment. We lose some garbage off our garbage squad....

It's not as if this team is piled with talented players. I could get eleven of my friends together and get pounded by the likes of OSU every week. It's like a few years ago, a friend and I were watching LaTroy Hawkins get shellacked in a relief appearance for the Twins and complaining about it. My wife walked in and said "like you two could do any better?" Our response was "we couldn't do much worse."

Collectively the players and coaches have to own up to their dismal record and performance thus far. They have not played and coached well. No excuses. Feeling sorry for themselves is hiding behind the reality that they are not a good team. It sounds as if there are a few that understand the situation and are manning up to it.

For some, the blame will be on someone or something other than themselves and it won't take much more for them to bolt. You are either with us or leave. I give guys like Rallis & Burris credit as they seem to understand the situation and are doing their best to encourage the team to think in a positive direction.

Even with a new coach on the horizon, some will say "I've had it" and go somewhere else, likely to a D2 where they may be feel more appreciated, get more PT and hope to even win a few games. I could care less about them and we will rebuild with those that stick with the program. Either they will continue to be Gophers or not. I am sure the remaining will want team mates who will watch their back. It's their call as we move forward.

this happens everytime a coach is fired..it happened to Alvarez his first year at Wisky...half of Don Morton's players quit or transferred. Look what happened 3 yrs later. Everything depends on who they hire and when they hire him. If they (Bruininks and Maturi) swing and miss on this hire, the U will never recover from it. The fan base will scatter, the seats will empty out, selling beer at TCF will become a total non-issue because there won't be anybody to buy or drink it. Right now the scariest part of this is that the M Club, many of whom I know, are making an effort to be included in this process and are not even being listened to by the AD, thus they are campaigning to get Maturi fired before he screws this up again. I can't say that I disagree with them but it WILL lead to a long drawn-out process which I doubt we can afford.

Bayfield your thoughts make a lot of sense. I would be surprised if we did not have some transfers. Most programs lose a couple every year without a miserable season like this. All the more reason we need a GREAT hire.

How could Tony D be of help in the coaching search? How could he fulfill his ministry of helping young men develop character? Horton, JM or somebody should get him and others to become part of team meetings and help these guys in a miserable time.

Oh yeah?

Well this one time, at band camp.....

Well said. This sums up my feeling on the issue quite well. If guys want to bail, go ahead and don't let the door hit your backside on the way out. While Brewster has been given the axe (and rightfully so), the players share plenty of blame for this situation as well. Some sound like they understand that, others not so much. Whoever goes won't be missed. For those who stay, the fanbase will appreciate you sticking it out.

Maybe after the new head coach is announced there will be a flux of players who will want to transfer here.

I would imagine the new coach would take a serious look at retaining some of the current staff. He may take a look at the current talent and encourage some of them to transfer.

I'm having some plumbing issues in my house. Should I call Tony Dungy since he supposedly knows everything about everything these days? I also need some tax advice. Should I consult Mr. Dungy?

Dungy isn't exactly going out of his way to support the U nor has he ever. I bet I've been to TCF Stadium more than he has.

The guy wins a Super Bowl and all of a sudden he's the answer to everyone's problems...football related or not.

Move on folks....

You let your wife talk to you like that?

MG, Dajon and Troy are the only elite athletes on the field.

There are some guys on defense that I'd like to see work with a coach that knows how to develop talent. Spencer Reeves made some nice plays today. I'm not ready to give up on Cooper yet. I still hold out some hope for Michael Carter too.

I would like to have a chat with these players. If they think that on a whole we LIKED Murray Warmath when we played for him, they are mistaken. Almost everyone RESPECTED him, but like is not the word I would use a good share of the time. He wasn't the best at all times for your personal feelings or not everybody got the playing time they thought they desereved, but we won a heck of alot more than we lost. When we were done playing, you were one of Murrays boys, and he would do anything for you. THEN you not only respected him, but you liked or loved the guy. But him worring about you FEELINGs was not big on Murrays list,so get over it and play football.

You're spot on with this assessment. Remember what Herbie Brooks said, "I'm NOT here to be your friend, you want a friend? go get a dog, I'm your COACH!"

He's twice the kicker Giannini (sp?) was.
So, what the heck has happened to our special teams this year. We have to be last in the conference in punting, kick-offs and field goals...all three have been HUGE disappointments. I'd like to see the last time we led the conference in punting??? Anyone? Anyone? Bueller? Anyone?
