The Gophers’ opponents this season, Texas Christian and Colorado State, were a combined 22-4 in 2014. That win total is the most any program has faced in the opening two weeks of 2015.
Minnesota (1-1) needed overtime to sneak past Colorado State 23-20 on Saturday and avoid falling to 0-2 for the first time since 2011, coach Jerry Kill’s first year.
“I think some people forget. It’s an amazing culture. We’ve played two good football teams,” Kill said.
Only five other schools — Michigan State, Oregon, Brigham Young, Tulane and Arkansas State — have started the season against two opponents with a combined 20 wins last season.
