"Coach Kill always says it starts up front, so it's up to the D-line to set the tone," Cockran said. "I feel a lot better this year. I feel like I'll be able to make more of an impact this year."
All-Big Ten defensive tackle Ra'Shede Hageman, who is expected to be selected high in next year's NFL draft, has confidence that Cockran will take his place as a force up front next season.
"I expect him to," Hageman said. "He's definitely grown a lot since he's been here. I feel like him looking at the seniors right now, he is learning how to take on more of a leadership role. I think he can step it up next year."
