Logan Hutton's brother and father made the trip to watch the Gophers play at New Mexico State on Saturday, and they got an unexpected treat when they arrived and discovered he would get his first career start on offense that night.

"It was a really exciting moment," said Hutton, a University of Minnesota junior wide receiver.

"To Logan's credit, he didn't give up, and really listened to coach Kill and learned what his philosophy was," said Lee Hutton III, who is now a Minneapolis attorney. "This year, for example, coach Kill was preaching the run. Run blocking might be more important than catching the ball, so Logan all summer worked tirelessly in perfecting angles on getting to the block and improving his knowledge of the offense."

FSN: Patience paying off for Gophers WR Logan Hutton

"Coach (Jerry) Kill always stressed that from the beginning: if you work, you'll end up playing," Hutton said. "That's always been his main thing since he first got here. He will play the people who will work for him, and he always talks about the foxhole. That's his mentality. If you're going to be in the foxhole with him, he wants you to play."
