Gophers defensive players wear maroon jerseys in practice; the offensive guys don white -- except quarterbacks, who wear gold, no-contact jerseys.

But unlike preseasons past, no players have worn brown or pink.

When coach Jerry Kill took over the Gophers football program before the 2011 season, the coach immediately cracked down on players who got into trouble, skipped class or showed up late to team meetings.

To change the culture, Kill made offenders wear brown or pink shirts that read, "Minnesota Loafers" and "I let my teammates down."

Senior running back Rodrick Williams was once a regular member of that doghouse for being tardy.

"I probably had one of those things every single week," he said. "Pretty sure the (equipment) staff started to run out of stuff to give me."

With more than 100 players, Kill said, problems can always arise. But the amount of discipline he has had to instill this season is "like night and day" in comparison with 2011.

Yep, a lot of people feel the same way but isn't it nice when you can do the right thing and still succeed? Hurrah for Jerry!

Yikes! Really?! That's kinda icky. In fact, I'm going to say that's about the worst possible perspective and why our society is in such a sad state. Would you really feel good with a national championship game and a bunch of horrible citizens? Killer may not get it done, but if the Gophers ever are in the hunt for a B1G title or playoff berth, it will be a Hollywood movie-maker's dream.

There were several who were quite critical because Kill was so mean. A lot of us older citizens can recall others using this approach--whether it be a teacher, coach, or even a parent. Bear down on you at first, shape you up, and then treat you with respect you earned. Immensely disliked and feared my old drill instructor at first. By the end of boot camp, I would have pretty much followed Gunnery Sergeant Keyes anywhere. 23 years old, college graduate, Marine draftee, hated Vietnam, but I still remember how proud I was when he praised me for not being a quitter. Got a feeling Jerry Kill would have made a hell of a D.I.

Such an easy team to root for. Hey Vikings fans, hop on over on the Gopher football bandwagon. This is a team that does it the right way and is getting to be pretty damn good too. I think I saw a stat that said the Vikings have had the most arrests in the NFL in the last 5 years. Not to mention the issues their star RB has had.

About a week ago my wife and I are heading to the Tampa airport to catch an early bird to MSP and we drive by a nude strip club near Raymond James Stadium at 4:30AM. The lot was full of mostly high end vehicles including a $1 mil+ McLaren sports car. I'm not saying it's definitive that they were all Bucs players but put 2 and 2 together. There wouldn't be a single player in that club at that time of the morning that I could imagine being coached by someone like Kill.

Why is an NFL player going to a strip club at 4:30 AM a disciplinary issue? I didn't realize that was illegal activity?

So do you expect your boss at work to discipline you for having drinks with friends if you stay out late? Or have a drink while you're on vacation? Just a weird example. NFL players aren't college kids. They have every right to do what they want (providing its legal) when they want outside of their place of employment just like every other American does. Being late to practice is actually work related. So no, I'm not suggesting Kill would, but Kill also isn't an NFL coach and if he were he'd sort of have to put up with it.

You need to re-read my post scher. My point was that I can't see a Kill coached player EVER doing something like this. Not Maxx, not Wilson, not Cobb..none of these guys come to mind who would do this. What the Bucs organization allows it's players to do has nothing to do with it.
