per Marcus:
It seems like a lot longer than two years ago that Andre Hollins scored 41 points to carry the University of Minnesota past Memphis in a tournament in the Bahamas. It had been awhile since the former All-Big Ten guard reminded anyone of that player.
Hollins showed a glimpse of his old self with 27 points on a career-high seven three-pointers in Tuesday's 84-69 victory at Wake Forest
"I'm not surprised at all," guard Carlos Morris said. "Andre is a great player. I practice with him every day. He had 40 couple years ago. He's a big-time scorer. That's what he does. Definitely good to see him back to the old Andre."
But is the "old Andre" here to stay?
The Gophers (5-2) hope so. They start a six-game home stretch Friday night against Western Carolina (3-5) at Williams Arena.
Ankle and hip injuries no longer are an issue, and the senior guard has had a full season to adjust to a new offensive role under coach Richard Pitino. Yet Hollins fell into a funk after opening the season with 22 points in a loss to Louisville in Puerto Rico.
"I think he's been playing really good basketball," Pitino said. "Maybe not so much the offensive part of it, but he's been really good defensively, really good leadership-wise. I think he's going to have a really good year."
