per Greder:
Gophers coach P.J. Fleck selects three plays that demonstrate great work ethic from each game and highlights them during video study — one play apiece from offensive, defense and special teams.
The top play from Minnesota's 48-10 win over New Mexico State on Thursday, Aug. 30, was an obvious choice: Antoine Winfield's 76-yard, tackle-breaking punt return for a touchdown in the second quarter.
The redshirt sophomore safety broke five tackles, with key blocks coming from Calvin Swenson, Seth Green and Matt Morse.
"We always talk about our punt return lasting six to seven seconds ... Well, this was 20.6 seconds," Fleck said. "The amount of 'how' and the blocks and people giving full effort for 21 seconds was impressive."
The highlighted offensive play was redshirt freshman right guard Blaise Andries's pancake block on an Aggies linebacker to pave the way for Green's nine-yard rushing touchdown before the half. It was a highlight for the Marshall native playing in his first game.
"A few plays earlier, he whiffed on his block," Fleck said. "That's just how you want to look at it. That's why you have to stay humble throughout the entire game. You know there's going to be great plays; you know there's going to be things you have to work on. He's a really special person. He's a really special player for us."
