per the STrib:

After the 2011 season, Chryst took the head coaching job at Pittsburgh, taking three Badgers assistants with him. In all, then-Wisconsin coach Bret Bielema lost six assistant coaches that offseason, and one year later, Bielema left for Arkansas.

“So I kind of dodged a bullet there,” the younger Nelson said. “It’s not like I ever really wanted to go to Wisconsin during my recruiting process because I knew I wanted Minnesota.

“But just looking back on it, that’s exactly what I didn’t want, to go into a situation where the coaches who recruited me ended up leaving.”

Go Gophers!!

That, and the fact that Wisconsin never offered (nor any other D-1 school) ...

Because he solidly committed to Minnesota very very early leaving no other school a chance to offer.
Trust me, if he opened up his recruiting, he'd have SEVERAL B1G schools along with many other
D-1 programs knocking down his door.

I thought I read he was committed to another school, but when Kill was hired he talked to Philip and got him to come here...?

Love this kid and the process his family utilized. Their priorities are not typical in this day and age. Hoping to see father and son on the field together after the game!

It's great to have a home-town hero! Go get 'em Nelson!
