Phil Miller blog: Royston seeks another year; Kill's mentor hired at Texas St.

Be great to see Kim back on the field in 2011! He could really help in the defensive backfield. What does everyone else think of his chances of returning?!

Usually the comment section on the Star Trib is peopled by crazies, but I actually agree with the first comment:

If the NCAA can let the Ohio State players that are being suspended next year play in the bowl game the other night, you would think Royston, who has done nothing wrong, could be allowed to play another year. Otherwise, I would consider the NCAA a fraud, as I kind of do already.

What kind of jurisdiction does the NCAA have over bowl games, anyway?

Marcus takes a not-so-subtle shot at Phil Miller with this tweet, which was posted shortly after Miller posted his blog:

"It's old news Royston is pursuing 6th-yr of eligibility since Kill talked about it on the radio twice. But he'll hear from NCAA this month."

I'd love to see Miller's response, but he's probably the only major beat reporter that isn't on twitter yet.

Go Gophers!!

Franchione had a great resume until he got invoved with Alabama. He knows what he is doing.

Nice dick move by Marcus. Not exactly the hardest working guy I've seen in the business.

Was it "official" though a while ago? Or did he just say he was gonna do it and just now officially did it. Cause if he recently actually went through to do the petition, then it's not exactly "old news". There's a difference between saying "I plan to petition" and actually going through the process.

I sure hope Royston gets that year of eligibility. It is a dirty shame the way it worked out for him this year.

I hope so too. It would be great for him and he'd set an example for the team: don't give up.

Plus, (not that the NCAA cares) he is a great kid. It would be nice to see something good happen for him.

Doesn't this boil down in some ways to whether Kim and/or his dad are willing to pay for another year of school? Maybe they are since I read the kim is the one who has to file the paperwork.

Would be great to see. But we should all understand what this means financially for him too.

That would certainly be a part of it but it seems as though the Royston's are wanting to play and pay for another season. I just couldn't imagine it would be still talked about if they weren't willing to pay for another year of school.

That said, the bigger obstacle will be the NCAA granting a 6th year of eligibility.
