Phil Miller blog: Kenny Watkins joined Gopher seniors in saying goodbye

I noticed Kenny's name listed during the broadcast. He retweeted a lot of stuff that AJ Barker said, so I wonder if there was any animosity there.

In any event, from a purely logical point of view, that frees up a scholarship that can be used on someone more likely to produce. I guess that Moses won't be following him out.

Sounds like Watkins leaving early was due to a concussion, so it's hard to say about Alipate and others.

Kenny is a great kid. I know him and his family very well. Former Northwestern football player "Big" Kenny is a successful attorney in Michigan, he and his wife did a great job raising their son. We spent many days in the stands together all over the country watching our boys play and I will cherish those moments the rest of my life.

Things may not have went the way young Kenny envisioned but he is to be commended for the
way he handled it. Kenny was very capable of being a productive Big Ten football player. No doubt Kenny will do well in life.

Just a horrible injustice as a writer:

"Now 22, Watkins says good-bye this afternoon, his failed career a testament to the destructive power of a concussion."

True that there is a "destructive power of a concussion", but to claim that a kid who came to The University of Minnesota, and is on course to get his degree, and assert that it is a "failed career" is simply wrong. As a student athlete, his "career" at The U was being a student, and I'm proud of him for getting his degree. His degree will take him further than his football career would have.

Ski U Mah Kenny, Ski U Mah.
