per Mackey:

At 7-2 overall (3-2 in conference), the Gophers have a winnable game at home against Penn St. next Saturday, followed by tough games against Wisconsin on Nov. 23, at Michigan State on Nov. 30 and a bowl game later in the year.

If the Gophers can win just two of those four games, they'll reach the nine-win plateau for only the second time in the modern era.

Still, this is progress. And it's safe to say the Gophers have become the most entertaining and relevant football team in town.

Philly Boy, now you are on the bandwagon, even if ever so slightly?

Pathetic.

I listened to your $hit for a while and turned you off long ago.

Holding grudges is bad only for the grudge holder.

Mackey tells it like it is. It you don't like it, then you probably think Adrian Peterson is going to lead the Vikings to the promise land too.

He's one of the better radio personalities on 1500.

Thanks for the input Phil.

Gopher fans whine there isn't enough local coverage of the football team. Whine that the coverage is always negative and then whine some more when the local media takes notice and says something good about the program.

scools12: Whining is not allowed on GopherHole.

Mackey is actually one of the better sports talk people IMO.

In fairness to Gopher fans, it does just seem like ONE fan is whining about Mackey

lol

Wrong on so many levels.

What levels? I don't get it.

I'll break it down.

Gopher fans whine there isn't enough local coverage of the football team.

The only GOOD coverage has been the beat guys (Joe C., last year was different guy). And even with their good insightful articles were few and far between. We want(ed) more Gopher/B1G coverage in general.

Whine that the coverage is always negative

The only front page stuff the Gophers seem to get regularly is crap from Reusse/Soupcan. Reusse has lightened up a bit, I'll give him that. But that stuff isn't coverage, it's horsecrap opinion pieces that belong on the Opinion page, not Sports.

and then whine some more when the local media takes notice and says something good about the program.

I'll give you this, to a point. But you'll have to forgive the passion fans have when they read snarky piece after snarky piece from particular 'journalists' who only look at the stat-line when reporting on the Gophers and when said journalist comes around to see the light and write more glowing pieces.. Expect some blowback.

I have nothing against PMac's work, honestly. He's actually one of the ONLY guys on 1500 that defended Coach Kill during his episodes this year and disagreed completely with Souhan/Judd/Dubay's thoughts on firing Kill if he doesn't get healthy.

But I can't ridicule fans for harping on the media now. Most of them missed the bus and now are struggling to get back on (even Dubay admitted defeat in his opinion on the Gophers not making strides).

So there's your layers, GoldVision. There's even more to it than that, but I don't feel like hashing it over after being 7-2. Maybe after the PSU game if we lose.

Isn't that kind of like being the skinniest kid at fat camp? I mean, he's okay and evenything, but he's not up against the strongest competition for that title. :)

The only people on that station I really have a problem with are Judd & Dubay, but my standards are set fairly low as I've been subject to MN radio my entire life.

You just agreed with everything he said and whined about all coverage good, bad, and the lack there of.

Doc, when it comes to the media way too much whining on the this board. Lots of thin skin and paranoia.

Quite true. Those posts from the "thin skinned" and "paranoid" are always followed by people whining about the whining to show how "mature", "even keeled" but easily irritated they are I guess. Those self-congratulatory posts are sometimes followed by posts like this one, whining about both of them.

There are formalities that need to be followed.

Oh, Mackey's column was fine, thanks for posting it.

"If the Gophers can win just two of those four games".

Shouldn't that be two of those three games?

What? Did you read what I wrote? Or is there a disconnect. I thought I made myself pretty clear. The only thing I was remotely CLOSE to agreeing with scools on was the Gophers getting coverage in a brighter light.. but then went on to explain why media is still getting some blowback.

You are not being clear here.
