The Seahawks coach likewise heaped praise on former Minnesota Golden Gophers receiver Eric Decker. "Very, very good receiver," Carroll said, "and we have a guy [previously] on that [Minnesota] staff, Jedd Fisch, who coached him and we knew all about him and really were hoping to get a chance to get him, too."

I loved watching Decker on Saturdays for the Gophers. I really hope he plays a long time in the NFL.

We should send Carroll a $100 bottle of scotch

for taking Fisch off our hands.

"(we) really were hoping to get a chance to get him, too."

Carroll & Fisch had several chances to pick #7. If they were so hot on Decker, why didn't Seattle take him with their 2nd or 3rd round pick? Or trade up to get them. Its not like the Seahawks are loaded at WR. Everybody's talking about Carroll like he's suddenly some football guru. Doesn't anyone remember what a disaster he was in his last NFL stint? Up there with Holtz, Saban, and Spurrier to name a few. Then again, he's gotten a lot of experience coaching a pro team at USC.

Common misconception.

Carroll 33-31 (.516), 2 playoff appearances in 4 seasons

compared to:

Holtz 3-10 (.231)
Saban 15-17 (.469)
Spurrier 12-20 (.375)

Very few pro football coaches end up with a better than .500 record, let alone going to the playoffs in half of their seasons as head coaches. He got fired because he couldn't "live up to" his immediate predecessor, the "legendary" Bill Parcells. (Interestingly, he had a better winning percentage as NE head coach than did the immortal Parcells.) He was certainly no Lombardi or Shula, but a "disaster"? Give me a break.
