A return to Masonesque success won't get the people here excited, but that's to be expected in a major market.

From the column:

We have four big-league teams to occupy us, and if you keep going 4-0 against nobodies, and 2-6 or 3-5 in the Big Ten, and going to lousy bowls, we'll put your program on the same back burner the Gophers have occupied for most of the past 45 years.

Jer, you keep telling us you know how to build a program, but here's the deal: There's no assurance in offering up that résumé every five minutes, because building a program to MAC heights is miles easier than building one to above .500 vs. the Big Ten.

Go Gophers!!

If you really want to agitate a boatload of hard-working Scandinavians, give them the impression that you've taken $800,000 and basically burned it in the middle of a parking lot.

YUP.

It's the money. Even if you bribe a nobody to come here for another $800,000 and break even on the whole deal, it's still going to be about the money.

YUP.

Another *&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!#*&^!# bag article by one of the hack writers from the Twin Cities. Is there something in the water? Why r these guys always so angry?

You can argue that Reusse shouldn't be writing anything about the gophers because of 40 years of negativity, but this article wasn't that bad. It was probably good advice for Coach Kill.

You can tell Pat likes Jerry.

And Pat is smart.

So Jerry should listen to Pat.

Did I mention Pat is not dumb?

The truth of it is ... most likely half of all Gopher fans were thinking the same thing as Reusse stated.

Um, no he doesn't. The "Jer" isn't liking him. It's because he thinks Kill is a phony over his head. Still, nothing wrong with the article.

I thought it was funny. The 800,000.00 issue with Minnesotan's was comical, but he is dead nuts on. They'll shop a garage sale and offer a quarter for a fifty cent item.

The ONLY people that should be bitching about scheduling are the people that pay to put their butts in the seats and that us what 28,000 of us? The rest of the state's opinion is considered white noise.

Sadly, This writer is consistently negative and bashes Jk every chance He just like to many "fans" on this board. You have to walk before You run. Getting to any bowl means 15 more practices and exposure. Starting every year 4-0 is the smart approach. The Badgers did this for years and built a program. I hope JK, any current player or future recruit does not read this forum with so many negative tools posting.

A pretty accurate assessment of things by Reusse, not groundbreaking, but its been the pulse of things the last few days on talk radio and other print. Reusse hitched his horse to the Nelson bandwagon though, so I guess if Nelson really is good Reusse won't stop letting us hear about it for the rest of his life.

Yeah, Reusse is cranky, but in the land of the blind the one-eyed man is king. Good article. This was simply a bonehead move and if Maturi were still AD, this board would be calling for his head with venom.

I like Kill and want him to do well, but he, like us, is going to have to take the sour with the sweet.

The media aspect I am sure has been a huge eye opener for Kill since he started here. He's been able to fly under the radar for years, but that won't happen at this level so Kill is going to have to learn how to deal with it. Not only that but he is getting out of the honeymoon phase so the expectations of the media/fans will go up and the criticism will get harsher the longer the rebuilding process lasts.

None of this will change the way Kill does things but he better learn not to get offended when his decisions are questioned because the reality of it is that is probably going to happen a lot over the years.

Patrick, sadly we are still not at top echelon of MAC level until Minnesota gets there then I see your point. This program needs to walk before they can run.

This is a funny article. I could have sworn that I heard Reusse rail into Jerry on his radio show last week. Maybe this is his form of an apology.

This. It's the second reasonable column in a row for Patrick. He must be getting soft. He's also been pushing Nelson since he went down to Mankato see him play. He's also dead on about Minnesotans and wasting money. If you don't believe ask the folks out in Las Vegas. They were less than thrilled with they way Gopher fans treating tipping. "Throwing money around" was a terrifying experience that many chose to avoid. :)

I think if you listen to Reusse on the radio, you would get the impression that he does like Kill quite a bit. A lot more than any of the big talk show guys on KFAN, if there even is such a thing. I can't even think of any shows I can stomach listening to on KFAN since I work from 9 until noon.

It has been a strange week!

Go Gophers!!

You know it has been a strange week when Pat Reusse is the voice of reason on the GopherHole!

The typical go to response from many on this board with regards to the media.

Why are you so angry? What did the article say that offended you? Most of the post so far are in agreement with it.

I think you could add Teague to that comment as well.

I actually find Reusse more supportive of Kill and the Gophers than 50% of the people who post on this board. He is dead on right about Nelson...some people here think if you don't start from day one as a freshmen you should be redshirted. If Nelson is the best QB we have and gives us the best chance to win, you play him and play him for the rest of the year giving Gray some packages when he is healthy and playing him at WR otherwise. Max has even said that Nelson can do what he can do and is way ahead of where he was as a freshman. Go Gophers and Go Nelson....I hope you give us the biggest story Gopher Football has had in 25 years today.

Agree or disagree as you wish, but these 'auto-fill' he's a hack/lazy/fat/anti Gopher responses sound like a whining 3 year old.

I hate Ruesse.

He's 100% correct here.

Can't believe I just typed that.

After the all absolutely nauseating schedule/QB/redshirt/recruiting thread posts that I have read this week (and smartly stayed out of), he's 100% correct here.

Can't believe I just typed that.

" Patrick Reusse: Do it your way, Coach Kill, but don't expect U fans to like it"

Rule 1. Coach Kill is the BOSS of the Gopher Football Team.
Rule 2. The BOSS is the Boss.
Rule 3. The BOSS is always right.
Rule 4. If you disagree with the BOSS and think he is wrong, reread Rules 1, 2, and 3.

For you young college students, when you get out of school and get a real job, never forget these rules.

I disagree. It's fine to have a different opinion than your boss, we have this happen all the time at work and it makes us better to hear options and opinions. The boss is not always right. 1950s mentality here.

Anybody complaining about this article clearly didn't read it.

Reusse makes things personal.

But he clearly has some affection for Kill.

Ergo, Kill should listen to him....but not too closely.
