Suggests that U should tear down Williams Arens, build a practice building and play its games at Target Center! Nothing like that pro atmosphere of blaring electronic music, etc... to ruin the atmosphere on a college campus site!

No way he was serious. Just doing it to get us riled-up.

And Pat R now clicks over to Gopher Hole to read the comments of the fanbase for his next column where he makes fun of the reactionary Gopher rubes. Solid work.

Pat's formula:

Find a popularly held opinion, rail against it, watch the clicks mount on his various web pages, show his bosses how popular his columns are based on internet hits, smile at a job well done.

That will happen at the same time that PR gets his weight down to 175

this is why I don't give the fat guy any 'hits'....i initially thought this thread was about pat reilly (or however you spell the NBA coaches name) lol

Just heard this show. His two examples of reasons why the team doesnt need to play on campus was Louisville and Syracuse. Louisville plays off campus, but fought that tooth and nail and didnt really have a choice. He then stated that Syracuse plays in the Carrier Dome which is a few miles from campus. Well, sorry Pat. But the Carrier Dome is actually right in the middle of campus, surrounded by classroom buildings. Nice try Fat Pat!!

Depaul plays far off campus, but attendance is horrendous. They are trying desperately to get back on.

Update Williams Arena or go out and build a new facility.......but do not take the games off campus. Look at how much more fun gopher football is now back on campus.

Whats the big compaint about Williams Arena, if it is the recruting thing, build a fancy practice facility, and show recruits a video of the arena on game day. Go to Crisler arena for a game that is about as boring and non collegiete atmoshpere as you could ever not hope for. Why would anyone ever desire that,.

However, they are working to address that (and have renamed it Crisler Center). Have and continue to put tons of money into the 'center', not to mention the new practice facility.

When did Crisler Arena become the benchmark of what a new arena should/could look like?

Memorial Day weekend, we were eating dinner with about 15 people. 1/3 were Gopher faithful, 1/3 were for the Badgers, and the others were nuetral. An argument started regarding Williams Arena and the Kohl Center. Let's just say Williams Arena won the argument for favorite venue, and it wasnt even close. The only argument the Badger faithfull had was their winning. Kohl Center is probably more of the benchmark for a new arena, and none of us would take that over Williams Arena.

Why? If they built a new arena, is it required that it be patterned after a lame venue? It is impossible to build a beautiful new retro-feel facility? I'm not saying tear the place down necessarily, but the assumption that they couldn't possibly construct an incredible facility is just plain wrong.

Kohl Center is as sterile as a doctor's office. No thanks.

Whenever the time comes to replace Williams we better come up with something better than that.

I'm still amazed at how many people have this attitude.

All one has to do is look at design improvements in baseball parks, starting with Camden Yards.

My favorite; PNC Park Pittsburgh
